H.g.brown & son international trucking

Seeing the address on that Browns 110 reminded me that I used to go down Stanbidge rd. to Frederick Rays to deliver part exchange BL engines for Unipart, would Browns have been at the same place?
Reminded me also of another Scania operator whose trucks I sometimes repaired TH. Brown from Grimsby IIRC.

Big Leggy:

Sir +:
Done a bit of digging on here, and I fear that T.B and myself are not telling LB76 anything he doesn’t already know.It turns out he worked for H.G.Brown  .Still,we both meant well

How long ago was LB76 with John then ?
Would I know him – do I LB76 ? LB wouldn’t happen to mean Leighton Buzzard would it ?

Look at his Avatar.

Wasn’t Stanbridge Rd the home of Liptons Tea as well ?

I foolishly left on a promise of my own lorry from a B****** near St. Ives that never happened and i have hated that bloke with a vengeance ever since. Wont speak ill of the dead but i am sorely tempted

I didnt waant to lose face by going back to ask for my job back but often wished i had. a great bloke to work for.

LB76…I think you’ll find that the chap sitting in the passenger seat is that well known ‘Lorry Nut’ Peter Davies  when he worked for Bedford Trucks he was on the covers of quite a few brochures
You are probably right with the driver though!

these two bloke came out of nowhere and offered to wash the units for us, cost - 1 dirty book (i borrowed it from Roy Jackman)

Keep em coming LB76

Been waiting ages for some good pics of H G Brown  .

Love em :sunglasses:

It was’nt only europe and the M/E that Browns did, I’m sure some of their ex drivers on here remember the contract to Libya in the mid seventies to Tripoli and Benghazi. Might even have been the first time british vehicles had been back there since Monty’s 8th army which was only just over 30 years before, how things change in a relatively short time.

yes, Roy Jackman went on the first trip and i was down for the second, but the rate got shot to bits by the time this had come round so never made it,i had good reason to go too as my mum’s first husband wa buried there, woldnt want to go now

Trouble with the contract to Libya was that Tiny Lee (RIP) had pursuaded JB to let him do a trip and consequently screwed up a good job by being greedy. The trucks had to stay in the docks while under customs and waiting to deliver when needed on site out in the desert which could take several days.
As we were not allowed to sleep in the trucks all expenses paid hotels had been organised including phone calls back to the uk in which the proverbial had been taken so the next drivers to do a trip were restricted to a limit. Even after tipping it could be several days until a ferry arrived to take us back to Italy for a backload. I did it as an owner driver through Browns along with other work for them to europe having previously been offered a job on there while working for JMM out of Buckingham, should have taken it instead of becoming an O/D but then hindsight is a wonderful thing.
