Any trampers on here go to the gym when out and about? If so do you know of any gyms in the Leeds, Wakefield, pontefract area where I can park my unit & trailer nearby to stop for the night?
Not expecting many replies as Im sures most would prefer a gammon & a pint after a shift as opposed to a workout.
I spose it depends on whether you have a membership of a high St gym chain & if you can use it nationally at various other sites within the chain. There are probably gym facilities in each location run on a public/private partnership which you could use on a pay per use basis. But exactly where they are, google will be your friend. As I day driver I dont have a problem finding time to visit the gym

You MUST be joking! If you’d been tearing around doing umpteen multidrops with a 45footer & a tail lift you wouldn’t need a gym
Unfortunately I can`t give local info for Leeds, Wakefield, pontefract area
But I figure the biggest problem for the OP will be getting parked within walking distance of said gym, and many of them are in urban areas. though some of the fitness first places Ive seen out & about are on retail parks. More info from the OP is reqd as to which gym chain they use/prefer so more specific advice can be given.
Though in this neck of the woods theres are 2 gyms near the stockyard. the 1st is a gym (10 mins walk) in the ind est down the road from the stockyard, next to the jehovah witness place. The other is a banetynes place next to morrisons & the Ibis hotel at J1 of the M18. The one I use is further away, run as a public/private partnership by DC LEISURE on behalf of the council, and can be used on a pay per visit basis. But parking would be a problem, though after hours I know a few trucks do park in the carpark at the back of the co-op, and with the gym 800yds away & a wetherspoons and various fast food places 100yds over the road
I have this same problem finding proper gyms on my travels so I have to fit my workout in on the weekend, I bought dumbbells but they were to light so I think I might get a bar and some plates store the bar on top bunk or tie it by airlines or sumat and put the plates in the sidelocker, if your by Birmingham and need info on gyms you can get to with a truck just ask I know a few but that area I don’t mate but let me know if you find any

I would think the pain in the arse would be them wanting you to have the induction every time you go to a new gym.
Exactly, and some of the bigger chains don’t let you just have one session you must join for the month, and if they do let you have 1 session its about a tenner, truckstops and msas should have gyms in them just a thought
What I tend to do of an evening is I dump the air out of the tag axle bags, get on the ground underneath it and press it up over and over until the kettle has boiled. I’m hard like that.
payasugym.com This site gives you daily passes to most gyms in the uk, just put in your postcode pay online and they send a code to your mobile. You dont need an induction you just sign a waiver that your familair with using gym equipment. Ive seen passes range from 4quid to 7quid. Just as an example i know its no leeds but a pass for hilton gym bellshill is £6.95 its only a 2 minute walk from the righead plenty of parking. You could go for a swim, have a workout, watch the footie game at the bar or have dinner in the restaurant 10% off with your pass. Better than sitting in a ■■■■■■■ cab all night going mental.
in wakefield there is excercise for less a short walk from the lorry park at the bottom of town opposite pc world.
also bannatynes is about half a mile from the wakefield junction 41 industrial estate…
also if you came off m62 at jct 30 for rothwell they are 2 lay bys head down the hill towards rothwell and rothwell sports centre is on the roundabout about a mile walk but you pass a spire health club on way if thats any good for you?
hope this helps you mate
Gunner:
South leeds sports centre at the top end of middelton grove beeston loads of room to park
I live 5 mins from there, loads of room on the adjoining industrial estate. But it’s over a fiver a pop
Or there is a place in Middleton called fitness and physique. A proper ■■■■■■■■ gym, you can park near the council tip and walk over the road. £3 a session and its 10 mins (due to7.5t limit) from the south leeds sports centre. Or 5 mins if you happened to “miss the 7.5t signs”
The perfect gym is always with you - your own body weight. A pair of trainers and an optional skipping rope are all you need. Run, walk or skip for cardio. Some of the best strength exercises are the simple ones: you are lifting between 50 and 85 percent of your body weight doing press ups and squats. If you must lift weights, get some proper instruction in using a Kettlebell and take that with you. Wouldn’t suggest keeping it in the cab though as it may hurt if you ever roll the truck!

Thanks for that link, I’ve been off the road in the workshop for the last couple of months but that should be useful when I go back out.

And if you get dumbells don’t leave them on the top bunk of a Volvo, I had a Friday of and didn’t know my truck was going for service another driver took it and when the mechanics tipped the cab up the dumbells rolled of the bunk and straight through the windscreen
