Yes, surely it cannot take them another 4 months to work out what they will do?

it will take them at least 4 months

if there has been any objections to the application, there will have to be a public enquiry to listen to them, make more enquiries and then reply with the decision

if they accept the application and grant you the licence, they may attach terms and conditions to the licence, such as max number of vehicles, times when you can depart/arrive from the operating centre

Your going to get me started! I for one am outraged the amount of time they take to process applications or changes, so much so that when my current problem is resolved I intend to do something about it.
I have already fired off a letter to my MP, though don’t expect that will change much. If there is not a pressure group in existence I am minded to start on.
Any way to your issue, on what grounds have they made complaint, is it something that you can change asap and amend application?

Any objectors to an O licence because of NIMBY reasons should be made to live without any of the products carried on lorries, if they can’t do this because they rely on things like bricks for their house, food, clothes etc, they should be told to ■■■■ off and stick their letters of complaint up their arse :imp:

The complainers are saying the road is too narrow, is about half a mile to get to the main road, is on a farm so no neighbours to complain about noise ect, looking at this link it seems they have no rights to object about the road dft.gov.uk/vosa/repository/GV74R%20Guide.pdf Had a parish council meeting and they approved it, just the odd nimby, but 7 months!!!

This is what i fear, terms would be a nightmare to live with, i would have to hitch the trailers on a tractor to get out the village and couple up after

Could try writing to the Traffic Commissioner requesting an interim licence pending the outcome of the objection. Or get your self a solicitor who specialises in this field, expensive option.

speak to your local newspaper. you need to invent a story like “local haulier to sue residents for multi million pound losses”

it’ll cost you nothing. it will be free advertising, and they may withdraw their objections.
you may find you have more supporters, than objectors, so even if they don’t withdraw, you will be able to show that the application has more than one side to it.

^ THIS

At least when they do object you can find out who they are, unless they come up with an acronym for a name, but at least you get to know who the ringleader is :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

you will have a list of the objectors, go and see them find out their concerns and try to alley them before the enquiery. if the road is too narrow how many times do you meet anyone, keep a diary, are there places to pass or lots of reversing to be done (normaly by them i assume) is it the same people? can you change leaving times to mis them? can you make a passing place along the road ? is it because of bends and vision problems ask if they would like to acompany you to see how much more vision you have than them in their car, one withdrawal of a name from an objection is worth 10 of the nimbys on the day. and remember to ask if one decides to not object that it is alright for YOU to write and inform the traffic commissioner of the change, they might forget but you should not. courtesy and a few stamps is all it might take. but remember you will not win them all over, you do not need to. above all be polite, keep calm and carry on.

Thank you for the advice. I have won over a few with an explanation of my intentions and the explanation of a ‘margin’, i attended a parish council meeting and explained to those that were there and the parish council voted and passed it by a 10 to 1 majority, i am left with the retired banker and two others to sort out. The road is narrow with a transit and a car unable to pass on parts of it but has no width or weight limits. I will keep calm tho, my wife keeps saying the same, but bugger it is hard

Good luck

bazstan009:
Good luck

Thank you. I would imagine it is a very frustrating process for established hauliers wanting to up numbers with a new contract promise but unable to get an answer within 2 weeks or so. I will choose a paper in Somerset for the next advert :unamused:

I’ll keep an eye out for it as my long lost twin lives somewhere round your way  :smiling_imp:

the diary of passing vehicles is a must, as if you only passed two in ten days theres no case to answer, the retired retards are the ones to watch as they have all the time in the world to make graphs and count cars but only the ones you come accross matter, it does not matter if 100 an hour goes up the road if you only pass two. good luck

why is there so much emphasis on the haulier?
lets face it, the trucks are away all week with any luck, and they go in and out of other premises in the middle of nowhere, down tight country lanes, reverse up cobbled streets that arn’t designed for such vehicles. but do the owners of these businesses have to jump through hoops to opperate?
do they [zb].
they may have a small business with the odd van arriving, then all of a sudden they expand, and get deliveries day and night by hgvs.
are they regulated? well if they are, it’s in no way to the extent that the haulage industry is.

We have a small industrial area just outside the village, it is full of caravans, empty 20’ containers and sheds as secure storage. There are cars and vans up and down that road all day and night without a problem. But one lad who had a courier business with 3 vans rented a building. Still no problem, until he bought one lorry. This turned into a public enquiry and the upshot is that he can only go down there in his unit, his trailer must stay at his customer 8 miles away :open_mouth:

I must give VOSA their due and say that after a phone call to Leeds they seem pretty aware of ‘NIMBYISM’ and they have written to the aforementioned underclass and asked WTF they are complaining about when they live half a mile away, the complaints need to relate to my premises not a bend in the road a mile away
