Guy Martin denies 'fake Irish licence' charges

kris206:
I wonder if this was a Irish licence or northern Irish licence, strangely you can’t come from any other part of the UK and do a test in northern Ireland even know it’s half the price. What they say is fake might be actually real, just not allowed. The same applies to the transport manager CPC.

That is strange :exclamation: I thought these things were intended to be pan-european, especially the operator CPC  At the moment anyway :unamused:

was reading that hes got Aspergers. that figures. i know 2 adults with that and they cant pass a driving test cos they cannot read anything more than just basic sentences. they panic when theres a list of questions. thatd also explain why he sent in a forgery he would look at it thinking it looks ok but anyone else could quite easily see its a fake

As someone with Aspergers myself I’d say that’s ■■■■■■■■ & shows how little some understand it.

Ok Rainman, how many cocktail sticks have I just chucked on the floor then?

Am I the only one who finds that comment slightly offensive and not in the slightest bit funny?

Definitely not, definitely not.

Well It was aimed at me & I wasn’t offended, it was a poor attempt at some banter but not offensive - Iv had far worse in the real world by highly intelligent baboons!!

I’ve got Asperger’s I found it funny.

I’m 54 now and grown used to my quirky personality although it has landed me in a few scrapes due to not having the social skills needed and I can seriously wind people up as my perception of things is somewhat different to other people’s.

I’ve had 30 years of wagon driving I took a sabbatical for 3 years working for a commercial parts supplier and to be fair the lads ripped the pi55 out of me and gave me some good social skills banter and humour which proved invaluable in dealing with customers and i ended up being promoted to warehouse supervisor .

Also I can fixate on things and subjects which came in handy when dealing with parts, locations and computers.
I knew where everything was and what everything was for part wise .

Although I left because I wanted to go back driving it was the best 3 years education I ever had working there the humour sorted me and I was gutted I’d not had the opportunity to socialize more during my self imposed exile behind the wheel.

Asperger’s never stopped me driving and I’ve admittedly had a few jobs due to misunderstandings caused by it.
I’ve worked for some cracking people the highlights Stuart Taylor Karl Hayes and Ray White .

Humour is the best medicine and it brings folk together.
Offensive not to me .

Bravo brother! I’m quite a bit younger then yourself but can already relate to a lot of what you’ve said. Was only diagnosed myself 8 years ago which kind of made a lot of pieces fall into place. Tbh I was more offended by the ludicrous comment that those with Aspergers cannot read, that couldn’t be further from the truth with myself & those that Iv met with it.

i wasnt offending , just saying that two folk i know whov told me theyve asps or auts cant pass their driving test . Theyve tried several times but the theory part is the stumbling block . Then a third guy i know, Harry i actually employed , a real laugh ,only he doesnt know the diffrence between right and wrong [but excellent talker] and he too cant pass his theory test either.
sorry if i offended it wasnt intentional but you can only speak as you find -and im pleased you lot had no trouble getting thru your driving tests

merry xmas!

So his lorry tests wont count as to him having a fake Ireland car licence (allegedly of course), is this the case he his answering. i’m confused

I’m quite similar - diagnosed at 15 but have been working with people for getting on 14 years so am more outgoing than would be ‘typical’.

On that driver training Facebook page it says he passed class 1 second time, after a first attempt with another training co, so it sounds like it’s been a bit of a ballache adding class 1.

Anyone else look at those driver training websites where they have you grinning like a goon with the test certificate, and how many attempts you took, and think christ I’d give that place a miss if they want you to do that.

That’s part of the reason I don’t see Brexit as that big a deal as it’s not like the harmonisation is anything like seamless anyway.

Does it? I haven’t read the whole thing but what I saw was, Guys second first attempt pass, on the artic this time with Lindsey training
i.e. he passed class 2 first go then passed class 1 first go.

According to wiki he had 21 points on his licence at one stage, so you would have thought someone would have spotted a fake

Is it saying he passed class 1 first time before (ie Ireland) I wonder. Well if he’s got the pass certificate he’s getting off then although would have thought he would have done at magistrates level if he’d shown them it. All very strange.

That’s not how I read it but we will see. A pass certificate dated December won’t get you off license irregularity charges from November. A Mr Loophole type celeb lawyer might.

Reading between the lines a bit, I think he’s been driving lorries occasionally on the strength of his “Irish Licence”. It has come to light that it’s not 100% pukka when he applied to have Class C/C+E added to his UK licence - hence the criminal charges and his recent attendance on LGV courses.

(tin hat firmly affixed at a jaunty angle…)

Seems to have somehow played a Aspergers disability card with this.

Have absolutely nothing against him but it really often feels like one rule for celebs off the telly and another for the rest of us.

If the authorities found a magnet would any regular driver get off with an Aspergers, someone took advantage of me defence?

Motorcycle racer Guy Martin was cleared of possessing a fake driving license after a court heard he does not always apply ‘common sense’.

Martin had always said that he believed he passed a test while working in Northern Ireland and subsequently received a licence which he believed was real.
