8LXBV8BRIAN:
If i remember SOM had a depot at Stockton the red and cream Gardner greater piston guy big j could
be observed on the A19 in the late hours before returning to hide.
i can remember one passing SJR 450G on the A19 around the Norton billingham turn off
going north bound. just another sighting of this slippery vehicle back in the 1970`s.
The G reg you observed definitely was not an 8LXB Big J,the darkness can play tricks on the eyesight, are you sure it wasn’t an SOM TK flat you “clocked”? Cheers Bewick.
Dennis, i never said SJR 450G was a Guy bigJ with a 8LXB or it being dark.
I was only trying to translate your very eloquent description of what you “imagined” you saw Bri !!! Do they sell Newky broon as far south as Teeside by the way? Cheers Dennis.
hiya,
Dennis that should read “as far North” Newky Brown being brewed in Tadcaster, sorry good buddy but my “Old Lady” says I’m a nit picking “old git” and I always try to live up to any standard she cares to set for me.
thanks harry long retired.

The Missus is “right on the button” with her description of you “H”!!! So all I’m going to claim is that my statement was “metaphorical” so to speak!!! using the word Newcastle which is of course north of Teeside!!! Thats my explanation and I’m sticking to it!!! I know the big brewers have ballsed everything up as far as brewing what and where!!! Anyway “H” would you like to join me for a taste of Madeira wine hic! don’t mind if I do sir!! Cheers Dennis.
reagle ill do it:

oops! sorry! I thought “H” and me were talking about Newky Broon and Madeira wine, didn’t realise the thread was still current with regards to the production of a rear of cab shot of an 8LXB Big J. Cheers Dennis.

Your right Brian,Stockton’s vehicles were all designated with TD****,not SD****,SD**** were designated Southampton depot, crazy, but true,Manchester were OD****,because Maddiston and Glasgow were MD**** and ND**** respectively!
Glasgow was ND**** because Grangemouth was GD****!!!..Mad!!!
I have it on good authority that The Great Bubbs has ammassed, from his vast and comprehensive archive,a veritable treasure trove of shots, various, of The Guy Big J 8LXB.But he is adamantly refusing to post them while all the “sniping” and “back biting” continues!!! Cheers Dennis.

hiya,
I well remember one of Cookies drivers who always referred to his Big J as “the flying pig” just wondering could that have been the elusive big potter, well as the saying goes “pigs might fly”.
thanks harry long retired.

Both secondhand Big J’s parked together in the old yard in Milnthorpe circa '76,they really were a nice pair of tractors, the McGuffie one ran between S. Lancs/Cheshire/Wirral and West ■■■■■■■ and we operated the Bewick one within the long distance fleet.
