no stone left for iom chris , half of buxton went to make the m62 , worth the sacrifice though if it means you can get out of leeds and bradford quicker . my nieghbour did his air gunnery training on the island , he reckons it never stopped raining , he’s not been back since !! tup

A lot of locally quarrried stone was used for the IOM airport extension but the biggest boulders required for the seaward end weren’t available here so they came in by barge from Norway.

Dave, tell your mate that the sun is shining from a cloudless sky today.

you only had to ask chris , i’m sure we could have spared you a few rocks to save you dragging them from norway . most of the big stuff ( 2/3 tons ) goes to salford and merseyside and is dug in round the new schools and factorys to stop ram raiders putting vehicles through the walls . no problems like that on the island i hope !! big night trunk from norway isn’t it , or was it two days with a dodgy neet out ? , dave

Posted by mistake Sorry

Several neets out on that Norway-IOM trunk Dave, max speed towing barges was around four knots. When the weather was bad they ran for shelter around Scotland and the IOM .The biggest boulders they brought were around the 40/50 ton mark,Sammie L would have managed one of them easy.

Hi Chris,
They are shipping big boulders from Norway into Aberystwyth to do a big sea defence job at Borth.I saw a biggish ship with a 360% machine on the deck anchored off Aberystwyth on monday, then today read about these rocks being shipped in.Apparently they can only unload at high tide via barges. You would think there is enough of rock in Wales  .
Cheers Dave.

I did have a photo of one of those Norwegian barges Dave,it was moored in Douglas Bay sheltering from strong winds,I can’t find it unfortunately.
Any road,IOM and Norwegian rock saw the job off…
Aye,you’d think Wales had got enough rock, same as IOM.

Here’s a pic of one of the Ships moored off Aberystwyth Chris,as I said couldn’t think why the 360 was on it,until I read the news item.
Cheers Dave.

Identical to the photo I took off Douglas Dave,I’ll bet it’s the same vessel, complete with the 360. I used to plot them on shipais from Norway to IOM,seemed to take an age and a half.

Apparently they are bringing these rocks by ship to Borth,to save 4,000 lorry movements. They hauled a big tonnage by artics to Aberaeron a couple of years ago. Some from South and North Wales, would have thought it was supporting the local economy.
Cheers Dave.
