I can “hear” another “can of worms” opening! Did Welches Transport of Stapleford,Cambridgshire, have a depot in Hereford? no “I think they may haves” or “possibly’s” did they or didn’t they? Dennis.
Did you get a new wooden spoon for christmas Dennis.

Is it Welches Transport of Stapleford Dennis, because on the lorry in the photo it says Welch’s,and I’m sure there was a Welch’s in Hereford.
Cheers Dave,

My spelling leaves a bit to be desired Dave but it is the Stapelford Welch’s I re-call,and there has been shots of a Welch’s KM on an old thread if I recall. And on this thread earlier I think “3300 John” talked about been on a brick job with Welch’s and that would defo be over Peterborough way or in the area!! Dennis.
Just had a chat to my old mate Tony Lewis from Peterchurch,Herefordshire, and he confirmed that Welch’s did have a depot in Hereford. They were the same firm as at Stapleford and took over Sweetman’s in Plough Lane Hereford.
Cheers Dave.
That is definitely a Welches Transport of Stapleford,Cambridge motor,no doubt about it.I remember them way back in the early 60s,they were big players down that end and had a couple of LAD Dodge artics in Cambridge Brick and Tile Ltd livery.I’ve had lifts with them when thumbing a lift to RAF Feltwell from Cambridge every morning in 1962/63.

We were both right on that one Dennis.Sweetman Bros had a big yard in Hereford, which is now called Sweetman Trading estate.I only vaguely remember Welch’s being there, possibly they didn’t run from there for many years.
Cheers Dave.
Welch’s head office is Stapleford, they have a depot there, St. Ives (cambs),Fenstanton, Witham Essex, Henlow Beds , I’m sure they had a place at Madingley as well.

I think that would have been a different welch’s in Hereford and an 8lxb ■■? phah!
They did have a lot of TM’s with Detroit Diesels in
Had to go for a lung function test this afternoon, they put me on a nebuliser,as I sat there it was like an Indian smoking the pipe of peace, and then I’m sure I heard a rumbling sound, just like a straight eight Gardner 8LXB,but then I realised it was my belly,so we got some fish and chips on the way home .

I thought the NHS was cutting back on costs Dave!!! Next time you tested the merc they could have clipped the emissions thingy to your top lip and got a reading,it would have been cheaper don’t you think?Dennis.

You’ll have the bold “carryfast” piling in next Trev!!! plus you’ll set the “brains trust” off by suggesting it was a different Welch’s at Hereford! have you got definitive proof that the two firms were not connected?Cheers Dennis.

Probably quicker as well Dennis, should have gone with the transit yesterday,as that had a MOT,and thankfully passed.I would have looked a ■■■■ if it hadn’t after having the bodywork done, then fail on the mechanical side, but the old beast didn’t let me down.
Cheers Dave.
