Dave the Renegade:
Just been talking to David Edwards of M A Evans,he tells me they also had an A series ERF with an 8LXB in as well. This ERF pulled a bulk tipping trailer hauling lightly coated chippings to Kent, then loading grain from the Kent area to Erith, tipping there, then loading soil back to Knighton, apparently this was it’s regular work. The lorry was on an L reg.
I could have got the grain and soil locations mixed up with the wooden spoon that rigsby awarded me.
Cheers Dave.
Is the ground a bit “stoney” around Knighton Dave? Dennis.
Have a look on google earth Dennis.Knighton is situated in a steep narrow valley. The soil was probably bought by people from the ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ border to cover the sand.
Comments about the 8LXB A series are welcome .
hiya,
Your own little bit of England eh, very nice for you, look after it. or we have loads of tippers standing idle we might just take it back, if the rates are OK that is.
thanks harry long retired.
Wrong country Harry, and I don’t live there,I live seven miles from the place, nice big wide valley where I live.We have more tippers already here than needed half the time.
Cheers Dave.
hiya,
Oh yes i’m aware that you are living in Wales Dave but you said the topsoil was imported from England, hence your own little bit of “England” I know my geography.
thanks harry long retired.
But they didn’t keep it at Knighton Harry, they sold it on,to places like Durham and other area’s like that,to cover the slag heaps .
Cheers Dave.

Hullo Chris,
Are you stiring it too mate ? Whate does that badge say ? “I itch and You itch” what a funny emblem. Nothing like a White Rose ( or Invicta ) is it ?

Hi Archie,happy new year.
“EWCH YN UWCH” means “go higher”.It’s a nice part of the UK although it’s a long time since I was in the county.

Unfortunately nowadays Chris it is part of Powys, comprising the old counties of Brecnock ( Brecon ),Montgomeryshire and Radnorshire. It was all done in the 70’s and whereas a lot of counties have reverted back, unfortunately these haven’t. There are quite a few of us old diehards that refuse to call it Powys most of the time.
Cheers Dave.

Yes,powers that be should leave things alone Dave,Yorkshire was ok when it was North,West and East Riding and Lincs was Lindsey,Kesteven and Holland and then they had to stick their oars in and alter everything.
I’m not sure now if I ever went through Radnorshire with the wagon.I did a couple of loads out of Baglan Bay to Ferodo at Bangor way back in the early 70s and went up the A465 Glyneath,Heads of Valley and then up the A470 to Builth Wells and beyond. That was hard work with a Mandator but the scenery made it well woth the while .
hiya,
Howay now Dave there’s no slag heaps left up this way all gone and grassed over, a little bit of useless information, my daughter is the accountant for one of the companies credited with flattening the slag heaps and transforming the land back to park and woodland also playing fields where required. if we do need to purchase any of our topsoil back it must transported by Guy Big J 8LXB in loads not exceeding 20 tons tell you what my friend it’s a good job we’ve got loads of the top quality stuff to hand or we’d be waiting a long time to cover anything, just pleased my gardens are gravelled, .
thanks harry long retired.

Very true Chris, they joined up Hereford and Worcester, made it into one county, but a few years ago they reversed the decision and they went their own ways again. The same happened with a lot of Welsh counties, except for this lot.Geographically it’s the biggest county in Wales, but the amount of debt incurred is enormous. They have shire buildings in each of the three old counties, overrun by pen pushers ,half of them don’t have a clue what they are doing,we have to buy all our services from the adjoining counties, such as General Hospital services,we haven’t even got an A & E in Powys.
I will put my soapbox away.
Cheers Dave.
Dave,Ewch n uwch = higher and higher.Spoke to Wyndham at the last HUFC home game,he was a fitter at Gore Quarry and knows you.My family farmed at Llanerch above Radnor,Wyndham knew them. Uncle Walter and my Grandad were really good footballers and silky pilots. They were offered trials at a club in Manchester, but there father wouldn`t let them go. Sorry a bit off topic. Hope this makes up for it .My one time Borderer with an 8LXB.

Cheers Dave.

Question! What drive axle did that Atli have?looks like it was a Kirkstall HR to me! And did it have power steering?Cheers Bewick.
Harry do NOT touch that milk stuff other wise you will be asking for trouble as it can go sour and curdle damaging your insides besides it does not have any antiseptic properties in it either so just stick with what you know does you good and is tried and tested.
Johnnie
Dave and Harry the perpetrator of this thread as clocked in so I reckon we had better get back to did they or didn’t they make “Guys” with a 8 pot Patricroft smoker in them or he will be throwing a strop
