Now then Dave I know you’ll “take your medicine” if you finish up on the short end!!! But I just can’t believe that in over 12 months No One but No One has come forward that must have been able to say, irrevocably, that they saw a Big J with an 8LXB roll of the production line at Fallings Park,Wolverhampton! I know one or two SOM lads are claiming that they drove one, fair enough, but you would think that someone, somewhere,on the thread would have produced some litrature clearly showing the 8LXB option!!!The noise has been deafening by the silence don’t you think? I would love to see one my-self,never mind the “stick” I’ll get! I’ve operated an Atki 8LXB and an ERF A series and I’ve seen both a Seddon 32/4 and a Foden with the 8LXB but never a Guy Big J.Very strange IMO.Cheers Dennis.

This chap off the S O M website says he has pics of two of them Dennis, until he emails them to me I can,t do anything.I only got involved with this 8LXB Guy business after speaking to David Edwards.I haven’t had anything to do with a Big J myself.Saw plenty around in my time, also Llanelli Steel ran one from the yard of firm I worked for,but that had a 220 ■■■■■■■■■■■ I can say is,if the bloke emails me the pics I will post them.I will still buy the milk for you and the others, together with a box of strawa if he fails.
Cheers Dave.

Put it this way Dennis.I have never tasted it,so I won’t be buying it,although I did buy one of my brothers in law a bottle from a distillery in the Isle of Skye when we had a weeks holiday up there.I can’t remember what for, must have been to repay him for keeping an eye on this place.

Don’t waver off the thread! Where’s the the side shots of an SOM Big J with an 8LXB “Renegade”!! never mind about bribing the geriatrics with a free pint of milk!!! produce the evidence!!Offer them a bottle of Glenffidich each and they would all swear they had driven one on night trunk! Don’t know which firm they drove for but they would swear!I think your mate from SOM will probably be living in a teepee in North Dakota and has no intention of returning to the UK to be humiliated.Anyway never mind about hypothetycals how will this “hike” in derv prices affect the tipper lads? I honestly believe all the transport firms should “stop” now! never mind about "they can’t"they are been crucified so there is nothing to loose! If the VAT and Duty was removed from fuel it is still cheap! Don’t blame the Oil Companies, their take is minimal,I’ll get down off my my soap box as I might as well try p****** into the wind!!Anon

Now then Dennis, coming on here after a slap up feed and a belly full of scotch, making accusations about the man that runs " The Smith of Maddiston website".You are getting very impatient.Like the rest of us,you will have to wait.
Regarding the price of fuel and the tipper boys, well basically it’s up to them to take up the fight and organise themselves into a galvanised unit, which I doubt will happen. As for me I have resigned off the local council and most of the other organisations, due to my recent lergy.I will from now on,be concentrating my efforts on giving you a good kicking on Trucknet :exclamation: :exclamation:   .
Cheers Dave.

Didn’t feel like going to bed Dave so I thought I’d give it one more blast!!! I’m as curious as you to see an 8LXB Big J though, but is there really an SOM website? With regards to the current price of derv,I just can’t get my head around how operating a heavy truck is still a worthwile buisness to be in.How long can operators sensibly be expected to continue when the major part of their costs is derv over which they have no control or alternative!! It has to be the economics of the mad house now for most operators!!!Have a nice day!!! Dennis.

Hi Dennis,
There is a S O M website,if you put it on google or whatever search you use.It is fairly new by the look of it,as its still under construction.
As for the fuel prices etc,a lot of the hauliers can’t be doing their sums.Admittedly a lot of them are in a situation where they can’t get out. It’s sad to say,but a lot are going to lose everything unless they are a Ltd company. As I put on the border thread, quite a few this way have already got out.
Cheers Dave.

Just been talking to David Edwards of M A Evans,he tells me they also had an A series ERF with an 8LXB in as well. This ERF pulled a bulk tipping trailer hauling lightly coated chippings to Kent, then loading grain from the Kent area to Erith, tipping there, then loading soil back to Knighton, apparently this was it’s regular work. The lorry was on an L reg.
I could have got the grain and soil locations mixed up with the wooden spoon that rigsby awarded me.
Cheers Dave.

Is the ground a bit “stoney” around Knighton Dave? Dennis.

Have a look on google earth Dennis.Knighton is situated in a steep narrow valley. The soil was probably bought by people from the ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ border to cover the sand.
Comments about the 8LXB A series are welcome :exclamation: .
