Dennis I must have been driving one last Saturday night as I woke up on Sunday morning with a bad back and a sore right knee, anyway I have asked Santa to deliver you one next weekend so if it don’t turn up there is non and don’t try to contact me if it does as I will be out of the country for a few days laying low :unamused:

Seasons greetings to you Johnnie :stuck_out_tongue:

Eyup Johnnie,it was the same unit I used for two Ramsey trunks and a Castletown trunk last night, thanks for filling her up.
Somebody in t’pub told me another 240 Guy was coming over from Heysham on the night ferry so I went down to the terminal for 0530 this morning but it never showed up.I took me camera as well :stuck_out_tongue: .

hiya,
You see Chris you overslept i’d been, tipped and was on the ferry at that unearthly hour, ten minutes sooner and you would have had a clear arse -end shot as i was driving on but then this thread would have been dead, just pleased your good lady was lying on your shirt tail keeping you bedfast.
thanks harry long retired.
PS SOM and Welsh Wales did’nt have the monopoly of the beast, i’m a red and ruster we had a depot full of “em”.

If this “statement” is in anyway correct then “H” is making the sensational claim that BRS had a depot full of Guy Big Js with 8LXB engines!!! Sort of takes some of the aura and intreague from the build up to “the photo” been published on the thread don’t you think? I mean,BRS running 8 LXBs!!! Some accountant at Head Office must have been ■■■■■■■■■ I thought a RR engined chassis or at best a ■■■■■■■ one was the BRS standard. Now “H” drops this "bombshell"No wonder he’s composing poetry!!What blend of Malt is he on? 100% proof I think!! Dennis.

I think someone has been slipping you and Harry a couple of gallons of mulled wine Dennis :unamused:  .

Now Dave all I can say is that you must have some very strange drinking habits down your way as Mulled wine is defo not a drink of my liking and I dare say “H” wouldn’t be too keen on it either!! I don’t know what donkey ■■■■ tastes like but I’d like to bet the taste will be very similar!!! Cheers(with the real stuff,of course.)Dennis.

Oh come all ye faithful,joyful and triumphant,oh come--------come on “H” sing up I can’t hear you!!!Dennis.

hiya,
Dennis i am singing, and at the top of my voice but my rendering voice is rubbish not at all music to ones ears i leave the singing to the “Boyo’s” in the borders as well as the valley’s, all together now “Men of Harlech”.
thanks harry long retired.

We once had a driver called Tommy Roberts RIP worked for us for about 20 years up till he retired. All he did was Scotch and back,he never wasted 4 or 5 words where one or two would do,but get 2 or 3 pints down him—sing-- you couldn’t shut him up,Irish songs, hunting songs, sea shanties his repotoire was endless then the lanlord usually had a job to get him out at closing!! Some of the tales our other drivers used to come back with after running with him for a day or two had you in stiches! Then when you asked Tommy what had “occurred” when you saw him a while after he’d just grunt something like " what they been telling you"!!! Dennis.

hiya,
Seeing that it’s Christmas, I thought i might have seen,
A Guy Big J 240 powered,pulling Santa’s sleigh,
To see this ancient dinosaur, some folk are very keen,
Just so’s our curiousity, is slaked this special day.

Could be on here by the New Year Harry, sorry to disappoint all you 8LXB Big J disciples, but weather and not able to drive at the moment has hindered the great event. But have faith, the mythical beast will appear.
Cheers Dave.

Hi Big Al,
Its true enough about the lorry, the chap who has the picture is a deadly serious quiet bloke, who wouldn’t know how to wind anyone up.He is very much into vintage lorries, when I reveal his identity with the pic,you may know him.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your family.
Cheers Dave.

Hi Dave I hope you post that picture soon, I feel like the little boy who has just been told there is no Father Christmas :frowning: I have been speaking to John Horner who is very knowledgable
about all things Guy Big J (he used to hire them to the TV series Heartbeat) John does not think there is one with an 8LXB engine unless it was a one off special order. John is not on the
internet but in the course of our conversation yesterday he asked me to ask if any one out there has pictures of an eight wheeler Guy Big J E reg with a ■■■■■■■ V6 engine new to
Blue Circle cement. He thinks it might have been based at Grangemouth as it eventually went to the fair ground people Codonas in Scotland, John is doing a full nut and bolt job on
this vehicle and would like to see any pictures of it in it’s previous life. regards Big Al

Not the best pic in the world.David Edwards the owner didn’t think they would be any use,but assures me there was an 8LXB in this Big J.

Check with the DVLA records to see if they can provide any engine capacity records for that reg number the records would probably be precise enough to differentiate between the exact capacity of an 8 LXB versus all the other engine options.

Hi Harry,
He has the log book which should prove beyond any doubt that it was an 8LXB,as soon as he gets it to me I will scan it onto here.
Cheers Dave.
