GUY Big J 8LXB Tractor Unit

Bewick:
Look Dave,if,on Christmas morning, you produce an authentic photo of an SOM Guy Big J clearly showing the 8LXB at the back of the cab and--------support this shot with one of the 8LXB from near you,all us non-believerswill acknowledge the "second coming"and will travel from afar,on their camels(well in “carryfasts” case it will be a donkey dragging a motor with a ceasedDD)and they will all turn up at your Stable bearing 5 gallon cans of gas oil or Kero to top up your bulk tank! And we will promise never to dare to question again your unflinching belief in the exsistence of this Mythycal Motor!!!If I and my millions of fellow converts on this thread are right I will “walk on water” across the Lancaster and Kendal canal(well it is frozen over and not very deep!)Merry Christmas to you both(and the “scottie”) Regards from the “Grand Wizzard”!!!

Den…you’ve been at Anne’s sherry again, haven’t you … :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

There won’t be no pic on christmas morning Dennis, you will have to content yourself with a corgi superhaulier or a jigsaw that father christmas has brought you.My man is going to sort a load of pics out over the xmas holidays including the Big J,as he is behind the wheel all week.Unlike us he is still driving an artic full time,as well as helping to run the business.
Cheers Dave.

You appear to have the “non believer’s” in a bit of a lather Dave, but at least it is keeping them warm at the moment! I hope that councelling will be available when they discover the beast really exists, the trauma will be akin to when they discovered that Father Christmas and the Tooth Fairy wern’t real either (or maybe I have just ruined THOSE stories for them as well) Sorry chaps.

Pete.

Are you a believer then Pete? you’ve worked on quite a few motors in your time, have you ever come across one? they were a distinctive sound you could hear one half a mile away !
Everytime I heard a straight eight and turned round it was a B /C series or an Atki !

A believer eh? Can’t commit either way Trev but never took a lot of notice regarding lorries that “bend in the middle” as we only had rigid’s with 6 LXB/C’s! Only artics that I’ve worked on were BMC’s and Bedford’s (and they didn’t have straight 8 potters in them) and AEC engined Guy Big J’s!! It would be nice to know one way or t’other, though I’ve got to trust Dave cos he’s another ex tipper man and we ALWAYS tell the truth (or a version of it).

This thread will have been active, off and on,for 12 months come mid January, all I asked politely was had anyone driven one, seen one or possibly got a shot of one! After a lot of huffing and puffing over the year not one photo has been produced, and a good number of contributors(all good lads) are very doubtful if one ,in fact, does exist! But apparently Smith of Maddiston had 30,but not one shot exists!!! Plenty of SOM ■■■■■■■ engined Big Js though!.The Renegade is confident he can produce “the goods” but the delivery date has been pushed back a bit,so maybe the “evidence” will be produced on the anniversary of the thread! Here’s me thinking that Joseph,Mary and baby “J” were going to roll up in one on Christmas day-----no such luck!!!As I’ve never said "there’s no such model of Big J ever been produced"it does look however that I’ll get all flak and crap fired at me when a shot “appears” on the thread!! So be it,I’ve got broad shoulders!!! But I’m a bit suspicous about the spec of the one Daves lining up! Leyland axle, longer W.B.!! Defo a “funny” me-thinks!!! Seasonly,Dennis.

Hi Dennis,
Definitely not a wind up on my part, there were forty of them made,39 to SOM and the other down this way.It was only by accident that I found out that a local firm had one.I spoke to the son at a function about borrowing some pics of their lorries for the Border thread, and he mentioned among others the Big J with a 240.If I hadn’t been ill I would probably have the pic on here by now,but as I’m supposed to stay in doors until after the new year I will have to wait for the pic to reach me.
Cheers Dave.

All I can say Dave is that I hope you haven’t got a VooDoo doll on your desk beside you with my name on it!!! I keep getting twinging pains in “the nuts” as if someone is kicking me where it hurts!!! Cheers Dennis.

Dennis I must have been driving one last Saturday night as I woke up on Sunday morning with a bad back and a sore right knee, anyway I have asked Santa to deliver you one next weekend so if it don’t turn up there is non and don’t try to contact me if it does as I will be out of the country for a few days laying low :unamused:

Seasons greetings to you Johnnie :stuck_out_tongue:

Dennis I do not have an option as it is her 65th birthday so you can see why I will be unable to be around if the brown stuff gets airborne it will save getting the chemical protection suit out as well :unamused:

All 40 came over on the Ferry last night, what you on about Chris!!! I sent them over out of the bad weather, all I can think of is you must have blinked as they came off the span link, unless you had some cheap film in your camera Chris. When you find them no putting Red Derv in either!! Dennis.

You see Chris you overslept i’d been, tipped and was on the ferry at that unearthly hour, ten minutes sooner and you would have had a clear arse -end shot as i was driving on but then this thread would have been dead, just pleased your good lady was lying on your shirt tail keeping you bedfast.
thanks harry long retired.
PS SOM and Welsh Wales did’nt have the monopoly of the beast, i’m a red and ruster we had a depot full of “em”.

Found this site, it may be German or russian for all I know, they sell filters for all makes and this is a list of, Leyland J series as they call them, not an 8xlb in sight… heres the link if it works, mannol.ru/files/filter_lkx.pdf

I dont wanna start any trouble or anything but i wonder if they ever put the AV760 in a BIGJ!!!

IIRC the 8LXB used the same filters as the 180LXB? But then if Guy’s fitted the 8LXB (which is looking a bit 'iffy)why wasn’t the 8LXB mentioned in the listings, maybe because the 8LXB was such a rare bird in the UK there was no chance of exporting any!!!I think the Renegade may be sat outside at the top of his garden in minus 15 degrees repeating a mantra something like “just you wait you barstewards you’ll soon be getting yours,so you will”!! Bring me another large scotch Trace, please, its a bit “taters” out here!! Anon.

“Trev H” will be the guy (excuse the pun!)to maybe answer that one “ramone”.But is this just your idea of a supporting act until the Grand Finale when all will be(well maybe) revealed!!! Cheers Dennis.
