Hi Dennis,
Just had a chat with the man with the Guy Big J 8LXB pics,he will sort them out over christmas,he said Guy changed the wheelbase to fit the 8LXB,it had a ten speed fuller box and a Leyland back axle, you used a knob on the gearstick for the extra gear.I asked him what happened to it,he said unfortunately his Dad cut it up.But he will have the pics with a load more of other vehicles they owned to me soon.
Cheers Dave.

Thanks for that Dave,I didn’t think they would have altered the WB,as Seddon didn’t.The Fuller 610 10 spd was the box of choice behind the ■■■■■■■ 205/220 engines in the various manufacturers chassis although the heavier 9509 Fuller was used behind some of the C220’s,the C250s and the 8LXBs.I didn’t know the Leyland drive axle was used as I always thought that the Guy HR axle was up to the job! The ERF A series didn’t have its WB lengthend either. Are you sure these pals of yours didn’t start from scratch and cobble to-gether their own Big J? Where’s Trev H when you need his in-put■■? Strains of the Johnny Cash song “One piece at a time” are playing in the background Dave!!! Cheers Dennis.

When he looks for those photos he might find that they got left too near the gas axe when he cut the wagon up
.But he probably cut the motor in two making it into two 4 LXB 's because two heavy boat anchors must be better than just one even heavier one.
8LXB in a big J ? bah humbug !

Woodpeckers in space.
Whatever it is that you’re drinking it must be some strong stuff.I did get the bullet though because I said that I wanted more and better Reindeer to pull the sliegh with because it’s a zb long night trunk on Christmas Eve and it was’nt fast enough with just the ones they’ve always used for the job. That’s when when the row started about having to do local multi drop as well as the night trunking and they were’nt going to change the way the job’s done and the amount of power just for me either and if I did’nt like it I could zb off.So I said happy Christmas and F U 2.
Ummmmmmm. Reindeer, powered by Detroit Diesels…still, about as much chance as Den’s Big J with an 8LXB I guess…

You obviously haven’t been keeping up with the news, they have been monitoring Woodpeckers from space.
US scientists are developing techniques to monitor woodpeckers from space.
An Idaho University team has been using a satellite-borne laser to try to predict in which part of a State forest the birds might be living.
The instrument cannot see individual woodpeckers or trees, but it can determine the key characteristics of a woodland, like how dense it is.
Initial work has shown maps built from such data can locate areas favoured by North American pileated woodpeckers.
The scientists want to know where these birds are because they are seen as good indicators of overall bird diversity in a forest.
“They create homes for lots of other species in the forest setting,” explained Dr Kerri Vierling from the university’s fish and wildlife department.
"They make cavities and those cavities are then used by other species for nesting and roosting.
“Woodpeckers are very sensitive to forest characteristics, and so they’re very selective about where they decide to live.”
The Idaho research has been presented here in San Francisco at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting, the world’s largest annual gathering of Earth and planetary scientists.
The team assessed some 20,000 hectares of forest in the northern part of the state around Moscow Mountain. They used data acquired by laser altimeters flown on aircraft and on Nasa’s Icesat spacecraft before its recent retirement (it was de-orbited in August).

And they decided they would need a DD powered 6x4 drawbar outfit to go in and look for them?
WTF?
This woodpecker from space thing is on the wrong thread. Why don’t the Yanks just go in a count 'em or can’t they get between the trees after their burgers? How many woodpeckers would you get on a 6x4 drawbar, providing they kept still ?
Nurse…it’s me tablet time!

Look Dave,if,on Christmas morning, you produce an authentic photo of an SOM Guy Big J clearly showing the 8LXB at the back of the cab and--------support this shot with one of the 8LXB from near you,all us non-believerswill acknowledge the "second coming"and will travel from afar,on their camels(well in “carryfasts” case it will be a donkey dragging a motor with a ceasedDD)and they will all turn up at your Stable bearing 5 gallon cans of gas oil or Kero to top up your bulk tank! And we will promise never to dare to question again your unflinching belief in the exsistence of this Mythycal Motor!!!If I and my millions of fellow converts on this thread are right I will “walk on water” across the Lancaster and Kendal canal(well it is frozen over and not very deep!)Merry Christmas to you both(and the “scottie”) Regards from the “Grand Wizzard”!!!
