GUY Big J 8LXB Tractor Unit

No its definatly a 6,count the ports coming from the head.
JOHN.
On closer scruntiny you can just see the outlet from pot 5 showing behind the wiring harness,so its deffo an 8cyl.

One of us needs to go to Specsavers Pat… …and your eye’s are younger than mine !!

Settle down now lads,we only have enough troops to fight on one fron’t at a time as half the Battalion is “in dock” at any given time!!! If this shot helps it is the back end of an 8 potter atki we once run.As you can see it had no Power steering but I think it is identical to the shot causing a localised uprising?Dennis.

I’ll get me coat ! I’m of to the La lunettes shop…

Hiya “H” HP sauce on your chips, thats a bit extravigant in’it!! I had a source(gedit!) until recently, who got me a 12 pack of HP every now and then, fresh from’t factory in Aston, then Hienz took them over and moved it to Holland, not the same tackle now no matter what they say!!!And while were on I can’t parly vous francias,I only speak an early form of ■■■■■■■■ Norse and a load of ■■■■■■■■ when required!! Cheers Dennis.

SPOT ON DEFINITELY EIGHT POT PAT BUT AS BEWICK SAYS LOOKS LIKE AN ATKI WITH A COFFIN SLEEPER
THATS LUCKY CAUSE I THOUGHT YOU NEARLY BROUGHT THIS PAGE TO AN END HA HA

Definately an Atkinson, going by the lettering on the power steering tank and the crossmember with the large holes which you can also just make out on Bewicks pic, also an 8LXB, it matches the lines of the black and white engine picture if you look at the air intake etc, and you can just see a bit of the second rear manifold down pipe, the other two front ones being further in and hidden, if it didn’t have the extra coffin length added to the cab the two back pots would would be more exposed. Not a Big J though, tch! Franky.

Found this pic what is this 240 fitted to? I will leave it to you experts!!!

Pat the picture is from my website Big Al’s Truckstop. It is an eight cylinder Gardner engine fitted in An Atki with the chicken coop sleeper pod.
It was new to Fountain Brothers Transport, Mike Fountain sent me the picture of it when it was new to his fleet. It now resides with father and son
Fred and John Lawton two stalwarts of the preservation fraternity. regards Big Al

Here’s one I had for a while, not an 8 pot though, 6 only plus an AEC gearbox, which broke the main shaft twice while I had it, (driver abuse I bet) this had a Locomotors sleeper. Seen at Banbury lorry park 1978, loaded for Windscale from Crendon Concrete.

This was a well travelled motor in its previous ownership - I believe it made a trip to Eastern Europe as late as the mid-90s

I knew it was an Atki with a pod sleeper cab, but I couldn’t get the registration on here to work in time. Oh well. maybe next time…
