Last post of the thread but unfortunately the poster has not logged in for 6 years.

Pity the one on the left isn’t a bit closer.

The one on the left that you refer to Pollystag does not have the front grille extension needed to allow more room for the larger engines, including the 240 Percy, notice the one on the right does have the extension.

And oh! it has the RR 220 ? engine fitted making it a typical cheapest specc’d 32 ton gvw unit available at the time along with the Seddon 32/4 RR engined unit ! well at least the Big J had a better reliable axle than the Seddon !! Cheers Bewick

How would you know if they never made one, I thought it all came out the back.
And it has a gardner badge so it doesn’t have a roller in it.

I thought the grill changes are more age related with the pre '72/73 (or thereabouts) having the horizontal bars in two built in grills. The later type appears to be a pressed or molded additional surround to the cab front with 2 mesh grills.

Yes, that’s what I thought too.

I was half promised that Guy when I started for Joe Pallet but ended up on a S80. Now for the life of me I can’t remember what engine was in her. He liked his Gardners, having a good few Akkies with 240s in them but that doesn’t mean nothing. The Akkies were mostly tippers n I’m fairly sure the Guys he ran were flats running out of Ellistown concrete pipes n didn’t normally run at gross weight so she may have been 180 cheers coomsey
