Nightrider made sleeper conversions with peaked roof visors for Guy Big-Js. Robert
Retired Old ■■■■:
Probably a glass fibre roof (nice sun visor!) fitted by the firm who did the sleeper conversion?
Which would be the probable answer I’m guessing, thanks ROF and Robert.

Couldn’t recall the name, “Nightrider”.
Although I’ve learned how to spell, “Alzheimers”!!!

Has anyone ever built one, sold one when new, repaired one,DRIVEN one,or at least seen one or possibly got a photo (side view) showing the 8 potter sticking out the rear of the cab .
This was the original question I posed in 2010 ! Oh! well back on the trail down “The Yellow Brick Road” what was that young Girl in the pig tails called ? " Alice in Wonderland" ? Cheers Bewick.
P.S. I never said that there never was one !

Thanks for your kind words Tommy, I also had great respect for SOM, from the days I was just a wee O/D and I used to pop into St Albans depot to pick up bits and pieces for S. ■■■■■■■ that SOM accumulated from their many customers which were no good for them to deliver. They would ring J & W Watts office in London Colney to enquire if that young fella frae Kendal was aboot ! It was always on my way out of London fully freighted ! and it was always “have you got a bit room for a couple of pallets etc from SOM” Aye OK I’ll squeeze them on ! Which meant running into see “Big” Hughie at SOM and he would always say " Luft yer skun Son and I’ll pit it on tap wi the Hyster" magic ! and it was always desperate eh! " Noo then dinna be hingin aboot up the road I want it there sharp in the morning " Well it usually was first off 'cause it was on the friggin top ! Unless it was for Barrow then it would be lunchtime maybe ! The quickest load I ever got out of SOM was IIRC one Friday afternoon and it was a bit of “arm twisting” helped by Harold Dunkerley the J & W Watt manager, well I was empty, can’t recall how it came about, I think I had been held up at Tescos at Cheshunt in the morning. Anyway SOM had a couple of Ford tractors on a trailer in the depot for Preston so with a bit of “give the Boy a bit help he wants away hame” They ( SOM) relented and Big Hughie ran them off the SOM trailer onto my D1000 ! It was no skin off their nose as they would be stuck with their bits and pieces for ■■■■■■■ in future eh!Great load and I tipped it on the way back to Kendal that night ! Cheers Dennis.
SOM must have been one of the biggest hauliers int UK never mind Scotland in their day Dennis? I don’t recall them ever advertising backloads in the press though, could be wrong…

Good to see this old thread spark back in to life. It’s been a very entertaining thread with some brilliant contributions from knowledgeable folk, some no longer with us sadly.

I agree, NMM, very entertaining, largely due to the high proportion of idiocy!

Just to clarify. Is it the idiocy of believing there’s a 240 , not believing or idiocy in general?

Chris and Gary,
You might recall I drove one for SoM on night trunk, both north and south for over 12 months,in its day a motor to be reckoned with,a great transport tool.
