Hi Dan, Im off to the family Holiday Caravan for a few days at the end of this month So hopefully this SOM drivers nephew will be in the club house & perhaps remember a bit more about the wagon that his uncle had at SOM,s, Even if I have to get him really ■■■■■■ at my expence It will be money very well spent, Just to make good old Bewick feel relaxed, & Come to terms that the BJ at SOM,s was real.
, Im just going to have another very large Malt before I retire to the Old Sleeper Cab I have at the bottom of the garden,
, Regards Larry.

I plan on spending an hour tomorrow lining up the camera on the rear quarter of Big J cabs. Can’t have too much practice when there’s so much at stake.
And I do hope they’re not the eggs off my breakfast, Dan?

Larry,
I hope that comment re…"the BJ at SoM…"makes reference to the Big J,would hate for others to think otherwise!!!
David
Well I for one am eagerly awaiting the pics as I’m a believer, no photoshopping allowed either lads. I just hope that Dennis has the kettle on for both of you when the trail eventually leads you to his front door (as it surely will) and his ‘stash’ of 8 pot Guy’s is finally discovered for all to see! He has pulled the wool over our eyes for long enough.
Pete.

I’m sure Chief Inspector Punchard and D.I Dunbar will get the full facts from Westmoreland, that phone number on the advert is switched off today, Dennis has let the battery go flat I reckon!
TruckNetUK.Old Time Lorries.Guy Big J 8LXB Tractive Unit. Peter Davies In-Depth Article On The Guy Big J Lorry Range.VALKYRIE.
Friday,8th September,2017.
Classic Truck,October 2017 edition just very recently published has a major article on the Guy Big J Lorry Range by Peter Davies on pages 18-24,
with plenty of Peter Davies photographs of Guy Big J lorries, including one of a Guy Big J4T Gardner 8LXB 240-250 4x2 Articulated Lorry,OWG 852M,
operated by Smith Of Maddiston! ,printed both on the front cover of this magazine and on page 24 within the article,QV photograph.
According to Peter Davies,around 37 Guy Big J4T Gardner 8LXB 240-250 4x2 Tractive Units were built,with the majority being operated by J & A
Smith Of Maddiston.
Peter says the British Leyland colour identities for it’s marques were introduced in the late 1970s,but actually they were introduced in July 1970:
Green - Guy.Green Light for Guy.
Blue - Leyland Motors Factory.Leyland Blueline.
Red - Leyland Scotland Factory. Leyland Redline.
Yellow - AEC Southall Factory. As good as Gold!

I’ll not bother picking you up Rof ,classic truck says it all ,it looks like Dennis got eggs on for sure
Well if anyone was going to take a photo of a 240 Big J it would be Peter Davies, why wasn’t he asked in the first place? Even he though didn’t take many rear cab views so maybe didn’t think he had to as the badge was on the grille. Well this thread certainly ran its course, I’d still like to see an indepth article on these vehicles. Franky.
The Big J article was a good read with some nice pictures, nothing in it I hadn’t already read before apart from the very few lines included on the 8LXB of which Peter Davies says there were approx 37 built with most of them going to SoM and of course the pic of OWG 852M showing the grille badge, another Big J is in the background which has to be presumed is also 8LXB engined but there is no Gardner 240 badge on the grille, it also seems as if the GUY was in a not so new condition when the photo was taken. Franky.
I wonder where the one for sale ended up ?
Off out to Smiths (W.H.) THIS afternoon to buy this Magazine

I sincerely doubt it EW,Dennis wanted proof in the form of a photograph of the Big Percy sticking out of the rear of the Big J cab, unless there is a picture of that in the magazine, the doubting Thomas will not be satisfied, unless he has bought the ■■■■■■■■ Big J,that has gone very quiet,Dennis is hiding the evidence in one of his sheds, perhaps Dan could pay him a visit,I’d go,but it’s a bit too far from Portugal, although I could “soften” Dennis with a bottle or 2 of a decent Portuguese red?’
