Guttless drivers who damage trucks & don't report it!

Now before all you agency drivers start having a go at me i would like to point out that i know that not all agency drivers are like this & are very good at what they do & honest.

I’ve been working for the same company for over 6 months now. The main rdc is based in Birmingham but i work from an outbase in severn beach & cover the southwest. I use the same truck everyday which is used by me & the night driver. My old truck was used by an agency driver overnight & was damaged. When i got to work in the morning i noticed the rear wing on the nearside of the cab was damaged, half the mud guard was broken & there was scratches to the side of the cab & bumper. When i rang the rdc to inform them nobody had rang to let them no about the damage. This made me angry as they could’ve thought i had done it :unamused: :unamused:

Anyway just recently i got a brand new truck. It’s done less then 30,000km & being that the regular night driver was off for 3 nights there was agency drivers driving it. Anyway came into work friday morning to find the drivers step has been damaged & once again they havn’t rang anyone

Why is it that these agency drivers think they can come to work, damage someone elses truck & not even have the decency to tell anyone. Do they think that nobody will notice, or is it because they are working from an outbase & think they can get away with it!!! Not only that but they give all agency drivers a bad name. At the end of the day accidents happen but when people do this it makes me angry

I now have the job of convincing them that it wasn’t me that damaged the truck…once again!!!

Anyone else ever had this problem■■?

Yawn!! Yawn!! Yawn!!..here we go again :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

If you have nothing decent to say then dont bother saying anything!!!

I wasn’t slagging off all agency drivers just pointing out the fact that on the 2 occasions my truck has been damaged it was done by agency drivers. The worst part being they havn’t had the guts to ring & own up!!

Have to agree with you tyler. My firm gave up on agency drivers as they caused to much damage without saying anything. I watched one back into a dropped trailer, right outside the office at 2 in the afternoon and didn’t say a word. I also had one in my lorry who smoked, which is now illegal. We’ve took on a couple of part timers for holiday relief now

It’s down to the individual driver, agency or not.

A driver too cowardly to own up to damages who works on the books and causes damage to the lorry would have no choice but to report it as he’ll be grilled about it eventually when the boss finds out. However, a gutless agency driver knows that rather than telling the manager what’s happened when it happens, if he just denys any knowledge of any accidents, he may think that there’s half a chance that the only punishment he’ll get is being barred from working with that particular firm again through the agency. So he’ll just hand the keys in and go home before anyone finds out.

In my humble opinion

And to put the other side of the coin.

came back from a night run, fuel truck, wash down (and inside the fridge, which had not been done for weeks), clean cab (i’m a messy eater  ) - park up, hand keys in, head home.

call at 9am from agency - “why did you not tell us about damage to trailer”

“what bloomin damage” says i

Anyhoody - having checked mileage, it turns out company driver had done it, and tried to blame it on me.!!!

some salaried drivers really get on my pip, but i keep shtum, as i like peace and harmony, and try not to rock the boat, but it is getting harder not to say my piece. I am nearly 50, had my licence 15 years, have not yet had a frontal lobotomy, and my IQ is at least average, so why do i get treated like a 5 yr old by the odd one or two ‘company’ drivers. It really is time some of you took your heads out of your bottoms.

Just for more balance, can i say that an overwhelming majority of ‘company’ drivers are very helpful, and some of them even talk to me

I know where you’re coming from.

A lot of agency drivers are on the books short term, therefore they don’t care, they know they wont be back so if they damage a vehicle they don’t bother reporting it.

Of course, ‘company’ drivers never cause damage, and ‘forget’ to mention it.?

I started this job through an agency on a temp to perm posistion. In my first week i clipped a car with the overhang on the trailer, or thats what i was told by the owner of the car. Anyway i rang the company straight away even though i thought they would never take me on fulltime if i told them. I believe in carma… if i have an accident & try hiding it then something bad will happen to me. In this job you have to expect the odd scrape or two so why hide it!!

It happens more often than company drivers would like to admit.

Why mention agency?? The fact that the driver who did the damage worked for an agency is irrelevant. These sort of people would act like this whether they are agency or on a salary. Just get used to the fact that some people are honest and some aren’t. :unamused: :unamused:

You’ve hit the nail on the head there.

I too have had a couple of scrapes, nowt serious, reported both, filled in paperwork, heard nowt more, continue to work for both companies. The ‘Agency’ bit is neither here nor there

The way i see it is there is alot of agency drivers who think they can get away with it as they probably won’t be back at the same company for a while. Like i said not all agency drivers are like this & maybe there are some company drivers who do the same thing. Company drivers are more likely to get caught in my opinion where as agency drivers have more chance of getting away with it.

You’ve hit the nail on the head there.

I only used the title agency drivers as on the 2 occasions the damage was caused it was done by agency drivers. I have no problem with agency drivers, i even had a guy come out with me the other day to learn my route as the company have now decided they would prefer to use the same driver to cover holiday, sickness etc etc.

Maybe i should of called the post guttless drivers who damage trucks & don’t report it!!! Could’t think what to write at the time so i appologise to all the hardworking agency drivers on here who i might of upset.

Why change title?..it was ‘Agency drivers’ who damaged your truck, same 'AD’s who don’t check the oil…same AD’s who don’t give a f…Change title back, its them who do it, its them who did it!

I didn’t write the post to upset people just to point out the issue i have.

Has anyone else noticed that the people who damage trucks and don’t report it all eat flaky pastry for dinner as well and leave it all over the cab?

this thread reminds me i forgot to defect a trailer that will now go out on monday.
