Gross/Net wages

Funny question I know, but if one was to get £500pw gross, what would one get in ones pocket after tax and NI? Based on a married mans tax code, if that still makes a difference.

Tax and NI will work out at around 25% overall, provided you don’t make enough moeny to go into the top tax band (and you’d need a LOT more than £500 on top to do that).

Using that rule of thumb, you would take home around £375.

Of course, if some of that includes night-out money, then you need to subtract that before working out the tax, then add it back on, as N/O money is classed as expenses, therefore it’s tax free up to a standard amount (about £27 per day at the moment IIRC). Ditto any tax-free meal allowance (about £3 per day) if you are paid it.

When I’m working out a guesstimate for how much I think I should have got for last week, I usually take of about a quarter to allow for both tax and Nic.

But I’m sure there’ll be someone cleverer than me to give you a more exact percentage

Ta for the responses…I like that 25% rule, nice and simple just like me lol.
None of it is night out money, it’s a night trunk gig £100 a night 5 nights a week, which I’m told is about par, according to a very helpful night trunk expert here on Trucknet.

For PAYE I use this:-

Take £105 off the gross pay (for your tax allowance)

Multiply the remainder by 0.67 (for tax/NI)

then add the £105 back to this amount.

EG:-

£500 - £105 = £395

£395 * 0.67 = £264.65

£264.65 + £105 = £369.65

It gives you a rough idea.

dont particulaly mean to be personal…but back in my earlier years (as a sort of grown-up) i met a prat who ‘worked the rail-ways’ who had a habit ov pulling out his wage -slip out on a friday night too show the pub just 'how good he was at his emm emm :unamused: job…well me being a ‘guest’ that night took exception, and in-stead of asking ‘the question’, proceeded to take his pay-slip off him then rip it up,now… for some reason or other he took ‘exception’ to my actions and decided that the best for of defence would be to ‘attack’, hence-forth he hit me on my jaw… so i being a matter of principle(and an earlier version of the ‘yuman-rite’ act) knocked the ■■■■■■■■ out of him, maybe im outa date with sos-i-et-T but ive always found that asking such questions is just…well…RUDE.

ChrissyBoy, I presume you’ve replied to the wrong thread, as I can’t see how asking my original question is rude in any way.

Not yet, I don’t know if I’m accepting the job yet. Even so, it’s not exactly rude to ask
a question about deductions on a wage. As for Chrissyboy comparing it to boasting, while £500pw is more than I’m on now (and ever have been) I’m still well aware it works out to be less than the average wage in this country, thus hardly boastworthy. Besides, that figure might be for a 70 hour week for all you know.

Rant over.

PS Thanks for the equation Stanley but you’re a much cleverer man than me lol My maths was never the best but as I age it’s getting embarassing.

patches,it aint about me ‘boasting’,you wont here me comparing Mr and …well bird on benefits and 10 kids earning more than the real national average wage for well…not working…its just that you mention figures and its …well not something that a lot of working people do(or should do) as far as my way of thinking goes… sounds like your more concerned with pennies, thats to say you dont know how to use a calculator ie minus tax and insurance then Hey Presto thats your pick-up pay :exclamation: it aint roket science friend

It may not be rocket science, but I have never earned £500 a week, therefore I did not know if it was in a higher tax bracket than I am in now, therefore I thought I would ask in a way people could help me with (if they wanted to/or not). And how the hell could I have asked the question without figures? Like I said before, I haven’t said if the £500pw was for 25 hours or for 70 hours, which would dramatically alter the boastfulness of the figure
And finally, of course I’m concerened with pennies, what a stupid thing to write, why else do we go to work??

since your asking…too keep lazy baskets on the dole…to keep lazy imigrant baskets on the dole too…!fair play if your latest wage increase is a big increase on you previous pay-packets…but t t t t your still at-least 10 grand short of ‘super anuation tax’ in old money,(been there in a ;previous life yep boastin),i drive trucks cos l love it,so pennies or not i aint worried but thats just me…but i still dont talk ‘ball park figures’ cos i was bought up to think that its rude to ask, each to there own i guess
