Ta for the responses…I like that 25% rule, nice and simple just like me lol.
None of it is night out money, it’s a night trunk gig £100 a night 5 nights a week, which I’m told is about par, according to a very helpful night trunk expert here on Trucknet.
Use the calculator on the HMRC website in the employer section.

dont particulaly mean to be personal…but back in my earlier years (as a sort of grown-up) i met a prat who ‘worked the rail-ways’ who had a habit ov pulling out his wage -slip out on a friday night too show the pub just 'how good he was at his emm emm job…well me being a ‘guest’ that night took exception, and in-stead of asking ‘the question’, proceeded to take his pay-slip off him then rip it up,now… for some reason or other he took ‘exception’ to my actions and decided that the best for of defence would be to ‘attack’, hence-forth he hit me on my jaw… so i being a matter of principle(and an earlier version of the ‘yuman-rite’ act) knocked the ■■■■■■■■ out of him, maybe im outa date with sos-i-et-T but ive always found that asking such questions is just…well…RUDE.
The guys who work on the tracks do earn good money. It’s a dangerous & often cold/wet job. (often at night)
Why does non of the above suprise me given your attitudinal post record on here?
If you did not wish to see or hear about his wages, you could have chosen to walk away. Instead you chose to destroy his important personal property.

pennies or not i aint worried but thats just me
So you would drive a truck around all week for no wages? I don’t think you would Chrissyboy. Pub landlords dont pay people to come into their pubs, football clubs don’t give fans wages to watch them because people love doing those things and they pay the owners for enjoying it. Transport companies PAY drivers to drive, get the difference? Why don’t you start paying your gaffer for the privalige of driving his truck if you don’t care about the pennies and love your job so much.

It may not be rocket science, but I have never earned £500 a week, therefore I did not know if it was in a higher tax bracket than I am in now,

The 40% tax bracket starts at £33000.
Stan
how many years has it been at that figure? its about time they moved it up, i think they call it fiscal drag… Dragging more people into higher tax bands
A fairly quick and vaguely accurateish way is;
Divide by 4 then multiply by three.
500/4 = 125 (couldn’t find the divide key)
125 x 3 = 375
See, quick and not that far out really.

Gone up to £34600 this year. Remember that this is taxable income so add to that your Personal Allowance (Currently £5225), the 40% band kicks in at just under £40k.
thanks once again for another glowing ,tribute, driveroneuk but if as i suspect(youy being my ,number one fan,) ought to know by now that compared to the railways my ,previous’ is far and above a 12 hour ■■■■-fest that railway workers regulary enjoy(usually at double-time) at the puiblics expene, but when some one puts an object in the viciniy of my nasal area,I TAKE IT QUITE PERSONAL,aint driving on the M25 dangerous enough all week oh and as for 'johny £500 a week’why should i pay to do a job i love doing maybe Jjjjjuuusstt maybe ive found my vocation…

Funny question I know, but if one was to get £500pw gross, what would one get in ones pocket after tax and NI? Based on a married mans tax code, if that still makes a difference.
