I offer my condolences

I need your condolences about as much as I need your sarky comments. I’ve re-read the thread 3 times now, and I still can’t see where the op asked what people thought of the idea of grill lights. Comments like that are no more than internet trolling :unamused: There is no right or wrong when it comes to looking after a truck, just personal preferences. I could just as easily take the ■■■■ out of the state some people keep their trucks in, but it’d be a full time job  Just live and let live. There’s plenty of threads on here I’ve read, and not commented on, because I don’t feel like I’d have anything of value or interest to say, so I do the sensible thing and keep schtum :bulb:

Its only a laugh… :open_mouth:

Who’s paying for this, and why?
I’d blow it on beer!

Tut tut, you should be blowing your wages on white Diamond and a buffer for your tank

White lightning :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Nope!

Yeh, but does this get your tank as shiny as the White lightning that I use though?? I would ask my friends but I have none.
I am an avid tank polisher so if this is a cheaper option I will go for it, I will save a fortune on my account at All Ride, and Totaltruckercrap .com.
Thanks for the great tip ‘‘fellow trucker with pride.’’ :sunglasses:

btw…Please forgive me Jay mate, …I know we’ve been here before.

Don’t worry Rob, I think someone else is trying to grab the limelight this year

Thank you! I was beginning to think it’s pointless asking anything on this forum as getting a straight answer is like getting blood out of a stone. Not just my threads but others that I read as well. Banter is banter but I was just asking a straight question, if you know the answer I’m interested in a reply. If not…

I totally agree as well…I bet half the people who roll their eyes at drivers who have spent time and money on making the truck look good are half the time the ones who roll around in a clapped out dirty unit that I wouldn’t want a rat to sleep in, never mind a person. Fact is, when your tramping you spend more time in your unit than at home, so why not spend a bit on it if you want to?

I’d love to spend my money on beer instead but I can’t drink anymore for medical reasons. So I’ll maybe spend £15 on a bottle of polish every few months instead.

Ohhh Rowley mate!..red rag to a bull that to me.

Do not run away with the idea that just because guys don’t spend their money on lights and cack that they live like tramps.
I have all home comforts and essential extras in my cab.and the interior is spotless, you could eat your dinner off the floor…in fact sometimes I do.

+1

Well said

I never said you HAD to get loads of lights to make it comfy. I’m just saying that trampers spend more time in the unit than at home if they choose to spend money on it to their taste then let em crack on. And it is true, some, not all, but some of the people who roll their eyes at it have their unit as a total dump. Not all, but some my key point there.

Just ignore them. If you’re looking for lights and other things like that, just make sure you can take them off again for when you get issued with a new unit. No good spending money on something that isn’t going to come with you.

I do apologise if anyone took offence at my earlier post, I was just being silly more than malicious, it is not any of my business what others want to spend their money on … I used to waste lots of money on Hi-fi, and all my vehicles have always been very untidy dumps inside, never any room for passengers due to all the clutter on the seat and in the footwell.

But the lights thing does fascinate me, I just don’t get it, is it like a jewellery thing, looking good in good clothes, shiny shoes and an expensive watch ? you see I don’t really get that bit either, I don’t even posses a watch and I buy my clothes from charity shops. The whole concept of washing the outside of a truck is lost on me let alone adorning it in jewellery. So I am in no way critical of anyone doing-up the outside of their machine, but curious as to why?

I’m paid to wash and polish it, so I wash and polish it. The gaffer has put a light bar on it, and I’m aware that he wants me to keep his corporate image as clean and presentable as possible, so I too wear clean clothes and steer clear of jogging bottoms and dirty hi viz etc.

Would I do it all off my own back? Not a chance, I go to work to earn money, not do stuff for free. BUT the inside of my truck is and always will be spotless, regardless of the attitude of any gaffer I had, this is because for a week, that is MY space.

All that being said, a truck does look good clean and shiny with a few tasteful extras. But only if someone else has paid for them…

Yeh same here .
I agree. It’s his motor he can pay for stuff that does nothing to help or benefit me.
The same reason I don’t pay for fuel and tyres. :bulb:

For me it’s a combination of things. First off I grew up just off the North Circular by Hercocks yard. At the time we had loads of heavies passing daily, beginning my passion for trucks. Do you know how many erf tippers I remember? Not one. I do have a strong recollection of the Dutch and paddies in all the 141/2/3’s and 88’s/f12’s.

Second it’s just an extension of my personality. Always loved everything mint. My grandad was a diesel fitter for pickfords and his spanners were always mint. My dad used to spend all weekend polishing his Suzuki bike and triumph 2000. I used to stand alongside him polishing my bmx.

Lastly, pre tn and face ache days, it was a social network. Drivers always make a beeline for you when you’re holding a cloth. I’ve made loads of friends all over the country, and even abroad since social media exploded. How many people have made genuine friends from the other end of the country (apart from here) whilst on the road?

I should add though, that if polishing ya unit in public, unpaid, is your thing then crack on. I’d never knock you for it. Same goes for buying your own lights. Go get it if you want it, but I’ll pass…

Question to the people who cover there truck in extra lights and granny curtains etc, how come you dont fit granny curtains, extra lights etc to your car?

I asked this question last time this was brought up and the answers reached the depths of ■■■■■■ depravity
So I’ll ask again…Wtf are ‘Granny curtains’ ?

Another question to you guys with those tacky ■■■■ light board thingys shining in the back of your cabs.
Why do you sit parked up in the cab all night (in fact that is another question in it’s self :unamused:  ) with those things burning away with the curtains open, like some kind of Amsterdam ■■■■■■? :open_mouth:
Do you think you look cool or something?
I’ve asked this among other drivers and the word ‘cool’ did not crop up. (However another ‘C’ word did quite frequently. )

Sorry you tank polishing lit up types, don’t mean to take the ■■■■.

Oh all right then I do. but at least I’m leaving Stobbies alone.

I also can not see the point of illuminated signs on the back of the cab wall, and signs that light up that say the lorry is a FH 12 or a Scania V8,
I can see what the make and model is from the outside .
Does anyone like Spanish bull fighter spears in windscreens and those silly silver metal dancing ladies , what is all that about ?
Dont get me started on frilly cab curtains with tassles and pelmets, i see drivers have to lean forward to get a clear view when approaching a roundabout, and many times, the road was clear but they still stop to lean forward as their view is blocked by these daft curtains that look like a brothel on wheels or an Indian restaurant .
Peekaboo curtains so they can use a phone with the left hand so nobody can see them .
£120,000 truck but can not afford a hands free set .

I don’t get those lightboards. Why do you need “Scania” on one when it’s written on the grille?

I’m still baffled by what granny curtains are, and unless it’s ones with tassels, I can’t image anything worse…
I’m sure Amsterdam hookers are better to look at, but how would you know pal?

As for my REVIEW of Old Rosie being an effective tank polisher, it’s about as good as urine. Let me know how you get on mate!

And who TF is Jay, as that’s gone straight over my head, don’t you remember my christening pop’s? :open_mouth:

So because you can’t understand my point of view, I have to change it to yours. Right oh, simple things and all that :unamused:

A bit of a misunderstanding here E8b son.
I was referring to Jay (Ovlov) Me and him have had a couple of harmless spats about lights and stuff before, but we just agree to differ now, he knows I’m a harmless p.taker so he makes nothing of it, and we just laugh it off.

To get back to the Granny curtains  , It would appear that they are the frilly tassled variety.
Well I "came out’’ on here a while ago  for not only being a frilly curtain user, but for also having not only the tassled pelmet, but the large tassled tie backs…seriously.

So it looks like I’m the ‘Missing link’ between the ‘Down to earth trucker’ and the ‘Tank polishers’ :open_mouth:  …Oh God!

In mitigating circumstances, I am trying to create the ‘Belgian brothel’ themed cab. I got the ‘Contrast effect’ from Gok Wan, where opposite entities create a theme.
Stay with me on this…the feminine based tassles contrasted and combined with the …Big butch tatooed earringed shaven headed goatee bearded (sometimes) fine example of macho man/animal hunk ie.me so we have…The Contrast Effect :sunglasses:

Anybody want photos ? see my p.a ■■■■■ at my fan club. :sunglasses:

I’ve just read this back  …Am I heading for a breakdown or is it just the usual Saturday night ■■■■■■■■ induced by boredom due to a night in the house instead of on the ■■■■. :unamused:
