Government CPC Consultation [Merged]

If you have no ‘dangerous’ problems i.e. only minor or advisory or no problems, then you pass an MOT!

No, failure might be due to “Dangerous” or “Major” faults.
Major faults you are allowed to drive away for repairs.
Dangerous faults you can`t.

Ok thanks, another school day today [emoji1]

One question - if say we do 2 of the 5 CPC days now, then this exam thing was brought in, do we get credit or a refund for those CPC hours completed?

Seems to me that this will probably come in within the next 5 years, so its a good idea not to do any hours for at least 2 more years just incase. Not great for CPC trainers.

Actually second thing - is there any indication where you will do the tests? Please please tell me it won’t be the current idiots who do mod 1 and 2, plus other driving test theory stuff else there will be a massive backlog, they’ll screw it up and the whole thing will collapse.

Finally - I think anyone who runs domestic hours shouldn’t need a CPC, eg: bin wagons. We literally put up with ■■■■ all-day long, so need to be exempt.

Sound question, but it’s all in the discussion stage right now, so no one can say.

Considering most drivers, most of the time, say it should be scrapped entirely, that’s a rare sentiment of concern

Plus the majority of drivers will mostly have the “common renewal date” of 09/09/24; anyone who doesn’t finish off their current 35 hours will probably wish they had the closer they get to that date. 2019 was a stampede of drivers who all thought it would be scrapped, DCPC trainers all over the country were run off their feet for months on end trying to cope with the surge in demand.

Again, no one knows anything yet. However they did say it would be administered by DVSA, so yes, I’d imagine it will be “the current idiots”. I do not believe for one minute they will let DCPC providers run the tests, far too much temptation for cheating.

When I was on bin and recycling wagons we still ran according to EU hours, even to the point of using tacho cards, but that was more to do with recording WTD/RTD and preventing time-wasting, but I can’t see any exemptions being given. Plus, if you can get them to pay for it, it means if you want to go off to a regular HGV job, you’re sorted.
