Apparently the majority of drivers have completed their course. That’s 564,000 out of 800,000, so happened to the 236,000 ? ( that’s over 1/4 ! )
Im under the impression the stats also include the old boys with the 7.5T cat and have no interest in driving them commercially, so i don’t think 1/4 of lorry drivers have not done the cpc.
They must have all retired…
Are we talking lorry drivers or just people who hold an HGV licence? My guess would be that the first figure relates to licence holders.
To answer your question regarding the discrepancy; I’d estimate that a quarter are semi-retired blokes who used to do a day or two casual and now can’t justify the expense of DCPC and a yearly medical, a further quarter are military personnel who don’t need DCPC in the course of their daily job (assuming here that this criteria applies to Crown personnel) and another quarter are people who hold an HGV but no longer drive for a living, or just drive a horse-box etc. That leaves a final quarter who haven’t bothered and are driving illegally.
I stress that’s just a guess and the actual quantities may vary, but those would be the main constituents of the ones who do not yet have DCPC.
Easy, 236,000 are stuck in RDC waiting rooms.
Scaffolders are another one.

Yep that’s true. Along with some others who fall into the “exempt” category, although my guess is that larger companies would put their staff through as a matter of course as I presume the cost can be offset against tax.
Well 10,000s of people in the forces have a HGV license and don’t need the DCPC.
Government figures don’t mean much, they know how many HGV licences there are but I doubt there’s any way they can tell how many are actually being used in a way that would require the DCPC to be taken.
So I’m 1 of 236,000■■ I hate a crowd.
The letter from dvsa posted on the notice board where I’ve been working States that, out of the 670,000 driver currently using their HGV entitlement, 654,000 have attended & completed the DCPC. Make of those figures what you will.
Brilliant and all end well as we are now 654,000 much better drivers ! Time to do the same for tractors and mobility scooters

Me too
L’amiral said “Time to do the same for tractors and mobility scooters”
fine by me I have a scooter and DQC valid since 120313
for sale never raced or rallied DQC as above
Then to confuse matters even more, you have people like myself that have done the dcpc, but don’t drive commercial vehicles. I just did it (at my own expense) to keep job options open in the future.

This is getting to be a bit of a mini-crowd
It wont take long for the number to quickly drop by Christmas ,
given how many dcpc training companies are doing approx 20/25 people per day per course, some running 2 courses a day / location.
There`s always the trusty Transit to deliver the criggy pressies anyway …
So the news today States that 245 drivers have received a fixed penalty which 124 were hgv and 121 psv. 22 of those were foreign drivers who “didn’t know” . Also 143 cases went to court with 23 were bus/coach. The majority were successfully prosecuted (£1000)

Then there are certain members on here (remaining nameless) that argue that this crap has nothing to do with revenue raising and other financial reasons
Especially when you can do 35 hours on the same subject (5 times) and be “qualified”
