The front (graph side) of the chart should be facing up
just a mercedes 18 tonner, about 4 years old. had a cd style tacho in it bud
really weird, no red light on so i know there was nothing wrong with the recorder but thought i did it all right!!!
- filled in tacho
- put it in recorder green side down
- tucked it under white lip
- closed tray and off i went
have a forgotten anything?? dont think i have but you never know lol, maybe it just wasnt my day hahaha
is there any way of finding out if its working once i`ve set off??
Which is the green side on your charts, the graph side?
The warning light doesn’t come on if there’s a chart in, it has no way of knowing if it’s the wrong way up.
Put it in when you start vehicle checks and then check it before you start driving - that should put 10+ mins on it - put a note on the back of the chart - checked tacho is working and initial at the end of it - replace chart and carry on

yeah good point, i can check that way can`t i, should i just stick it in p.o.a mode to try?
It should look like this when the charts in, next time you use that vehicle check to see if it’s working before going on the road, if it’s still not drawing the graph try putting another chart under the one you’re using, sometimes the charts can be so thin they don’t catch the pins in the tachograph head.
If it’s still not working the vehicle should be defected.

And no you shouldn’t have the tacho on POA whilst you’re working.
thanks guys, think i get it now. cheers
another thing…
got to work at this place this morning and had to start at 7am, got there and got my paperwork etc and did my checks etc then had to wait about 30 mins for my wagon to get loaded, 2 questions?
-
as soon as i get my truck should i put the tacho straight in even if i`m still waiting for it to get loaded?
-
also for the 30 mins i had to wait for the rest of my load should i have put the tacho on p.o.a for that time?

1: Only if the vehicle isn’t going to be moved by someone else whilst loading it.
2: Legally if you know how long you’ll be waiting you can use POA in those circumstances, if you wasn’t working you could also use break if you prefer.

Why ?
I was told, many moons ago, that if a tacho had to opened for a reason by the driver then that reason must be put on the back and initialed - maybe I was given duff info
1: Only if the vehicle isn’t going to be moved by someone else whilst loading it.
cool so if i know its just me using it i should put the tacho in and have it on either other work if doing so or p.o.a if know i`m going to be waiting yes?

so if i ask and they say 20 minutes i can poa it then yeah?

the way i would think is that i could use a p.oa when i`m not driving or doing other work but am waiting to either make a delivery or waiting to be loaded?

If you get paid for your breaks that are on the tacho then don’t bother with POA
so am i better off when i`m waiting to be loaded putting my tacho on other work? is that allowed?
