Good days and bad days

I love putting pictures of passes up on the site but not today.

Sam…on his 3rd test decided to hit a Tree when asked to stop at a convenient place. When I say hit a tree. He proper hit a tree.

Tuesday I have to have the Roof and front repaired. Nice…

Then came Simon. At 2pm. For some reason he decided at the roundabout in Shenfield that the motor bike should slow down a bit. And yes the bike had to slow down.

Then he decided when pulling away from the kerb that he would indicate before anything else. The car coming stopped. Simon pulled away. The car hit the back of the truck. John feels like crap.

All this on the last day before a few days off.

I love this game !!!

Keep the faith

John

Whoops !! my friend who is also a fellow instructor at euro 1 has had some run of bad luck too , one seems to stick in my mind what he told me the other night,

Test day for his student and the examiner told him to head north A1 and come off at boroughbridge/ old mother shipmans caves (J46) slip road is a single carraige way with hard shoulder, on the exit he was told to turn left! and the daft sod used the hard shoulder for his laft lane to turn off at the round about to head towards his destination !! needless to say he failed his test.

why were these clowns put in for their tests then

Hi Alex,

Sometimes, it’s only after such a disaster that we have the luxury of looking back and saying that. That’s the thing about hindsight being wonderful, because during their training they might have shown absolutely no sign of being “clowns.”

I’ve known candidates who have done their learning quite well and were honestly considered ready for test, only for the test nerves to kick in big-time on the day.

What was a competent and confident trainee can sometimes be turned into a gibbering wreck, but only at the test center, once the examiner says “please lead me to your vehicle.” Sometimes, I’ve known it go so badly wrong during the manÅ“uvre exercises that the poor candidate didn’t even get out of the test center because they’d come so badly unstuck and declined the rest of the test.

Human reaction to “test” conditions can be quite unpredictable.

I was such a mess during my C test, thought i’d done some terrible things, thought i’d run a red light and all sorts etc, just wanted to get back as soon as poss because i “knew” i’d failed. So when he turned round and said i passed i was even more of a mess. During the training i was fine about the test thought i’d just turn up, do it and that would be it.

When you’re training newbies free of charge then it makes sense to get them through their test ASAP to save on fuel costs. :exclamation: :smiling_imp:

My post was tongue in cheek Alex. I wasn’t suggesting that John’s training was not up to scratch nor that he was trying to cut corners/save costs. :bulb:

Thats test nerves for you!!! i had some slight test nerves but that was at the very start of the test, soon as i nailed the reversing i sort of relaxed and the subsequent drive went very well on both my Cat C and Class 1 tests. Nerves must have been pretty high for that Sam guy to proper hit a tree though!! but acciedents happen and it’s all a learning curve.

mine wasnt tongue in cheek, if the candiate isnt ready they why waste peoples time putting him through the test at the end of the training.

that is not an error that is plain stupidty and clearly the candiate wasnt ready, at my local test center patrick green then is a really bad left hand corner pulling onto the A61 leeds road, now ALL candidates practice that corner over and over again just in case.

my nerves before were terrible before a test but i went to the doctor and explained the situation to him and got a tablet to calm my nerves which worked a treat and i passed.

also as i said before when i went straight to class 1 in 1995 my driving was crap and at the end of the weeks traing my instructor phoned the test station and told them i wasnt ready and wouldnt be doing the test.

how the bloody hell did he hit a tree

Never mind about test nerves sonetimes good drivers do stupid things for no apparant reason. No reason to expect trainees to be any differant.
It’s easy to forget we all ■■■■ up sometimes.

Hi Jessicas Dad

Of course you are entitled to your opinion. However from what you say everyone that ever fails was not ready and should not have been presented for test.

I assume therefore that you passed 1st time and well done.

My original point is fully covered in the thread header. Some tests are just bad tests. Who knows why.

With the average pass rate about 50% there is usually very little difference between the driving standard of a pass and a fail. Depends on the time of day, the route chosen, the examiner’s personal quirks, the candidates frame of mind, to name but a few of many factors that make up the end result.

The 2 that failed on Thursday were not clowns. On that day the ducks didn’t line up correctly. Hopefully next time they will.

fair play john i stand corrected , i did sound a bit harsh.

i actually passed 4th time due to own fault, looking back i wasnt ready or in the right frame of mind to be doing the training or tests, therefore i dont generally count the first 2 tests cos they were a waste of everybodys time and my money.

patrick green is a good test centre, the fella takes you out will have a little chat as long as he is comfortable with the drive you are giving him, if you fail the next time you take your test as long as you do nothing stupid he will only judge you on what you failed on last time.

Clearly you didn’t get Grundy then. :open_mouth:

phil was the fella i had… top bloke.

i made a mistake it took me 4 tests to pass the car test , 2 times for the class 2 and 1st time for class 1.

Joking aren’t ya. :open_mouth: Grundy’s got a terrible rep. He hates all truckers and will only pass those who drive absolutely flawlessly, and I mean flawlessly :open_mouth: . There is no leeway with him at all. I did my bendy at Wetherby in the end.

Hey Rob you and I have something in common, I had Grundy at Patrick Green so i went to Weatherby for my bendy. Guess who I got, yep, Grundy he was standing in for some one who was off sick and yes i failed.
To be fair to Grundy it wasn’t his fault ,nerves and arrogance I not a good mix when your taking a test.
The instructors told me I didn’t need any more lessons as my driving was good it was taking tests that I wasn’t good at.

i always thought he was a top fella. i passed with 6 faults.
