If the favourite ■■■■■■■■■■■■ is 40mins away I’d have lied to the manager and said at the 13th hour I’m gonna be out of hours in 30mins, this would have given them the opportunity to hurry up or drop your trailer and allow you to leave site and find your favourite ■■■■■■■■■■■■ with a hour+ spare, leaving the shutter to move the trailer, and go back after your 9. But you obviously backed yourself into a corner, by the optimism of wanting to get loaded to get back before 12:30 Saturdaypeople are going to stop contributing to this forum if all they get is abuse from people who don’t read properly.
Don’t worry about me mate I’m used to abuse on here.
In fact I wouldn’t have it any other way.
#whipmebabywhipme.
I think it went Woosh over stu’wies head.
Rob knows I wouldn’t abuse him, I save the abuse for Dopey
I was a shunter for a couple of years on tankers and always went out of my way to help drivers knowing of their time restrictions. Would always say drop it there drive and i will sort it out later or would bring there trailer to them whilst their having their break and leave it behind them. As i see it shunters know the layout of there work place and should help visiting drivers not dictate to them as they may not have been to your site before. I have been to many sites where shunters could’nt be more helpful then the few that think they rule the world but is suppose you will always get them.

Why ?.When if you drop the trailer it can then be loaded late according to the customers requirements while you’re 20 minutes down the road in parking place of choice taking your reduced daily rest in the solo unit.Or have I missed something like the customers premises will be closed after loading the trailer and when you start again and go back to collect it after the 9 hours rest period ?.
This type of flexibility is what artics are designed for.
Basically assuming the latter ( they’re closing up after loading you and won’t be open in 9 hours time ) I can sort of see the shunters point. As in you can’t leave/park that there outfit there in their closed yard and no one is going to open it in 9 hours time.Your hours problem and weekend plans problem ain’t his or their problem. They are going to be late loading you take it or leave it.
All moot in an environment of ( what should be ) 12 hours minimum daily rest no ifs no buts.

Ahh so that are what artics are designed for…right,.got it.
Cheers for pointing that out to me.
Do I really need to explain all that…do you really CARE ?
Ok,…I rocked up at 7 expecting to get loaded .I was booked for a live load not for trailer to be loaded for me…don’t ask me why as I neither know nor care, just suffice to say that is how they wanted it…ok so far?
If I’d dropped trailer I would still have it to LIVE load in the morning making me late home for my plans that you pointed out was not their problem.
I had no idea at 7pm whether I’d be waiting 2mins or 2 hours as I could not get a definitive answer.
But thanks for the guidance and coaching Carryfast, even though I am fairly confident you have never done an overnight in your life.
I’ll keep in touch next time I find I have a problem tramping for your advice…even though I have done nowt else for the thicker end of 30+ years.
Announcement…It seems to be fashionable to give advice about something you have never done nor know ■■■■ all about,.so stay tuned for my bog snorkelling classes coming soon to a forum near you.

Define ‘live load’.
I’m assuming that means that ‘they’ load your trailer on arrival ?.
Which stops you from dropping it and letting them get on with it, while you drive the solo unit to your chosen parking place to take your 9 hours rest, how ?.
It’s obviously going to be loaded when you arrive back there to take it.

Ive had exactly the same situation with shunters telling me not to park overnight, even though the place was completly unused. You did right not to move if you are up to 15 hours.I didnt know about that 20 minute rule, absolutly no way am I moving once the 15 hours is up unless the police instruct me and I dont think even they have authority to do soThere is no “20 minute rule”. It’s a made up thing like the bible.
The “rule” is written in black and white in the regs and is called an Article 12 derogation which allows you to depart from the regular rules for an unspecified amount of time to reach a point of safety/legally acceptable parking in the event of an emergency.
It is not to be used so that someone can chug up to 4h 20m driving, or 14h 50m on their day and realise the services they planned to reach is full - that is still poor planning and against the rules. However if you’d planned for that services at say 13hrs duty and you get past the previous junction and suddenly there is an accident, the motorway is held and you go over your hours, that is what the derogation is there for.
I suspect Rob was told 20 mins because the shunter knew somewhere that far away. I’ve gone over my spread by 7hrs before with no consequence, and that was running in Europe where I was checked a lot more. And yes my eyes felt like wee holes in the snow at the end of it
Totally agree with all the article 12 stuff, but for the DVSA there is 15 mins grace before fines start for isolated cases.
Then once you’ve had a rest period, they become classed as a historical offence, to receive a FPN at roadside for historical offences, it would need to be a level 4 offence which for example would be more than 2 hours over for 4.5 or 4 or more lower level offences within the previous 28 days.
I would have done as Rob did

I shunt now and again. My rules are;I drive as fast as I want, you exceed 10mph you’re banned
If you park in a manner I find offensive you’re banned.
I don’t know how long it’s going to take, ask me and you’re banned
Site rules state Salvo locks, moan and you’re banned.
More than one shunt you’re banned
Amble through the yard chatting loudly on your Bluetooth you’re banned.
Look at me funny you’re banned.
Have a nice day, I hope you enjoyed your visit.
I’d get myself banned on purpose then I wouldn’t have to go back and have to deal with you!!!
You’re banned

Lol, yes, I was going to ask for his address as Amazon have delivered a hook, a line and a sinker by mistake to me.
I was a yard shunter at Imperial Tobacco (John Players and Sons) Nottingham for 13 years I always treated everyone with respect who came onto the site
There was very strict site rules due to the nature of the products that were made there
We had a fatality on site when a contractor driver was crushed to death by the lorry he was driving after that the site rules were made even stricter
Cameras were everywhere so no matter where you were on site your every move was being watched
I was often called on my radio that some visitors on site were not adhering to site policies and rules (any visitor on entry was given a site rules leaflet to read )
So guess who got it in the neck when I was asked to speak to them about for example not wearing a hi viz jacket safety shoes not keeping to the designated walk ways all chocking the vehicle when unattended
You’re right me I never went over being aggressive or rude it always started with “excuse me please”
Most visitors were polite and understanding some gave me a few looks and some gave me a you’re just the shunter I used to reply failure to adhere to the site policy rules which you should of read can or will result in you being asked to leave the site and not get into any confrontations which sometimes was a bit difficult
Before being a shunter I was a tramper for 17 years and after being made redundant in 2016 from Imperial when the manufacturing ended in the UK i returned to tramping which I still do
I regularly encounter shunters like we do all when I get an arsey one I just smile and carry on
The worst shunter I’ve ever experienced was at Argos Kettering a few years ago, the very angry Scottish one called Stevie. It was bad enough that he used to talk to drivers like crap and yell at them but he thought he was solely responsible for and in charge of the yard, including bossing the other shunters around.

Not just that but did he really think that I would not have thought of dropping the trailer for them to load. . even if I was not prioritising in getting back asap to catch the football, then he goes on to tell me and point out the benefit of driving an artic over a rigid.
Classic case of ‘No sh Sherlock’’ .

I didnt know about that 20 minute ruleBecause it doesn’t exist. The only time you can go over if there is an unforeseen event where you have absolutely no choice, say you’re caught up sat for hours on the M1 because of an accident, you run out of time whilst you’re sat there and you have no choice but to continue to drive but you can only do so to the very first available parking. You can’t do it because you should’ve been able to do your day’s work in 12hrs but an accident earlier in the day held you up. So given that robroy was already somewhere off the road parked up he’d have had a hard time defending driving over 15hrs.
Agreed, DVSA would have just said it was bad planning and acted as you’d expect them to act.
There’s the 2020/1054 get-out-of-jail-free-cards, where you can go one or even two hours over your time, but neither of those would have applied here.
