Gloystarne transport sheffield/rotherham

chris its a fact them lads were made of sterner stuff ,than the ones i work with today who wont travel if cd is skipping or reverse lights wont work

trickygaz:
bassetts job was always run as g.d.s transport gloystarne and newall and wrights did it

When Bassets ran Big Js it was before Gloystarne and Newhall & Wrights had come into the world I can remember them both starting up as will the old bugger on an island in the Irish sea who could be “Lord Lucan?”

Hi Gaz.
I worked with a Gary Fidler at Naylor and Wagstaffes in Parkway Market in 1969/70,wonder if it’s the same one? I remember Tony Reaney as well but I didn’t know he got killed in that accident on West Bar.I also knew a Don Morton who drove for A.E.Evans tankers in the late 60s and 70s when I was there so maybe it’s the same one,I think he lived up Grenoside or Oughtibridge.
And I was trying to think of that Bassetts name - GDS,I can rest in peace now

Chris he only broke a leg and something else he is alive and he as got to be in his 70s now and still working, well he was last summer as I was speaking to him at a wedding last June.Tony was at Evens and Sykes Sheaf Petroleum on Stevenson Road and his own wagons do you recall when he started with scrap he had a crusher compactor and around 4 Fodens artics and later went back on tankers.Don was a realtion to Eric Morton who drove one of the big outfits at Pickfords and I am sure he worked for Vic Parker at Malin Bridge as well.

I thought Tony Reaney worked for Evans at one time Johnny and come to think of it I recall him running his own motors.I thought it was strange when I heard he was killed in that accident, glad he’s still knocking about  Don Morton aka “Pink Panther” was a good lad, sorry to hear he died.

hi chris the bloke was definitely called tony reaney and he was definitely dead lampost pushed him through back of cab into trailer

Hi gaz I have known Tony for over 40 years and I recall his accident he was in a bad way but he did survive it I think he was doing the casual for gloystarnes after his business had gone to the wall and I still see him the last time at a wedding in June 2009 he is doing a bit of coach work now. There could be a coincidence of two drivers with the same name having accidents at the same place while driving for the same firm but it does seem unlikely. Tony had a pub for bit “The Chequers” at Coal Aston but is just doing part time coaching as he his in his 70s now. His accident was in the evening as he was doing a night shift.
cheers Johnnie
