Just seen Mick Stonier mentioned. I knew Mick many years before he started driving and when he worked for Gloystarne. He had a bad accident and eventually lost his leg. Sadly, Mick passed away earlier this year. Heart Attack. Luvly Feller.

All most sure to be,Gloystarne was started by a former employee of British Tissues who after time sold Gloystarne to British Tissues & later bought it back from them, then sold it again to newave logistics
hi lads ,new to this site just wondering, if theres any drivers out there who worked for them between 76 to 95,iwas fitting for them during this time
Hi Gaz, I never worked for Gloystarne’s but I had a couple of mates who did Gary F who came from “Woodcocks” and Tony who had the prop shaft come adrift out side “Brookshaws” on West Bar in Sheffield and it turned him mucky side up. I did know a couple more as I worked for “Magnet” in Rotherham whose place was near one of their warehouse’s on Barbot Hall Industrial estate but cannot recall their names.
Hi Gaz, Drivers i Remember by name: Peter Stryjick, Doug Wyre, & Steve that owned the Steel City Truckers CB shop in Sheffield, also The Fatman, John Ryles you may know
Didn’t they do Bassetts work after BRS? I’m sure a mate of mine - Dennis Gould - went onto Gloystarne after he was on the Bassetts job with BRS.

Chris I thought Dennis was at Robert Earls before he was at Bassets as I used to run over to Holland a lot with him when he was on Bassets we had many a good night on the ferry.

It’s all coming back to me now Johnnie.Dennis was at Evans then went to Earls and then onto Bassetts which BRS did didn’t they? The contract had a brand name I think and the warehouse was near that Chesterfield Truckstop at M1 J29 Heath. You would definitely have a good session with Dennis,God knows I had plenty of 'em.I last saw him at Maltby,he was working at T.C.Harrisons on Shepcote Lane who were MAN dealers at one time. That was years ago and I don’t know where he is now.
Chris I think it was Bassets own wagons at first because Dennis used to go over in a Guy Big J at first before the F88 so I think BRS may have taken the transport over later as staniforth Road never had any big Js then but I could be wrong again LOL

Thas right again Johnnie,he did have a Big J so maybe they had their own transport as you say.I used to load out of Beaulah Road when at Prestons with a Sheffield Haulage and Storage 20ft box roped on back in the late 60s and I’m sure they ran their own motors then.
I used to take the wagon home and t’kids were like bees round a ■■■■■■■■■ if they saw a S H and S box on me Reiver - always plenty of spice for 'em

Hi Gaz.
I worked with a Gary Fidler at Naylor and Wagstaffes in Parkway Market in 1969/70,wonder if it’s the same one? I remember Tony Reaney as well but I didn’t know he got killed in that accident on West Bar.I also knew a Don Morton who drove for A.E.Evans tankers in the late 60s and 70s when I was there so maybe it’s the same one,I think he lived up Grenoside or Oughtibridge.
And I was trying to think of that Bassetts name - GDS,I can rest in peace now

Yes,that’s him.He was one of the first artic drivers at Sheffield depot along with John Clare who went to A and E Tpt. They both had twin steer AEC MK5 tractors, cut down from 8-leggers by Evans and were on the North Sea Gas condensate job from Spurn Head to Manvers.Didn’t know he had died,I lost touch with a lot of Evans lads when I left and went working at Maltby.

I don’t recognize any of those names Gaz,and the Fidler I knew was Glenn not Gary - it’s a memory thing tha knows I think Tony Reaney was on tanker work at one time and he may have worked for Evans before I started in 1970 when the yard was on Queens Road.Sammyoposite might know,he’s older than me…wait for it
They used to run a trunk to Yate didn’t they?
hi chris, night trunk was oughtibridge to slough change trailer for yate then back to oughtibridge then they used to fight over overtime run to needlers at hull ,empty out loaded back to yard .bearing in mind these were all old men, doing nights ,because they couldnt keep up with the young men on days

Oh yes,I forgot about Slough first and a Needlers
Not a bad shift that for owd 'uns who couldn’t keep up on days. Some of our lot at Maltby used to moan about Lockerbie changeover on nights and Chepstow on days, couldn’t believe it when I started there
