Also i guess to be fair people always look down on the new errr ‘person’ as the newbie you tend to get given all the ■■■■ that no one else wants to do
oh my gosh kate thats awful! It is crazy how much things have changed so quickly!
maybe in 20 years women will be controlling everything and we’ll be turning the blokes away saying “sorry you make our insurance too high!” haha
i gave a lift to a guy the other day from one depo to another and he was in ore or me and couldnt believe i could drive an artic… and he told me he had to get parking sensors put on his car because he couldnt park it!!! haha
i get really annoyed when my dad gets out the car to direct me into a space!!!
the only thing is find when im driving lorries is that if i do something wrong… its cos im a girl… not because im a new driver. that ■■■■■ a bit. But i guess it does make me extra carefull not to do anything wrong. so that cant be a bad thing!

See now, I’ve found that 99% of that is all in our heads. If you look for discrimination, you’ll see it.
Once I sussed that out, life was a whole lot easier.
ive been following these posts and iv had my class 1 for 13 years ive done some truking years ago
got fed up so then i thought i would like to do a girlie job
so of i goes to collage and lerns a new trade as A NAILTEHCNITION
and as dennisw said working with girlies would be fun
NOT ON YOUR LIFE ■■■■■■■ was not the word so im looking at going back on the road
men can be a bit unberable at times but some women can be worse id rather work with men than women at least when men get anoying you can tell them to go forth and multiply
and u dont get your eyes scratched out and your hair pulled so stik withit girlie trucker
i totaly agree with you! when i worked in a bar… all the girls used to ■■■■■ about me so much! it was horrid…
blokes can moan and be quite gossipy sometimes… but its easier to deal with.
i havent had much luck with women in transport offices tho!!
I know some of it is paranoia… but some of it is real.

It doesn’t make a difference whether you are a new driver, or an old driver. You only ever get it wrong cos your’e a girl, or so ‘they’ think… Load of rubbish, if you ask me… the only reason you (or me for that matter) get ‘it’ wrong is because you are human. At the end of the day, who cares what anybody thinks of your/my/any other woman’s driving? I know I’m good, and couldn’t give two monkeys what anybody else thinks.
Stick with it Kid,
keep your head down, your gob shut and get on with doing the job you want to do… It worked for me…
Oh, and one other point Girlie Trucker, If you’re looking to get other ‘girlie girls’ into driving trucks, this aint the place to do it.,IMHO.
All the women on here are already in this industry one way or the other, as drivers, drivers wives/partners or here for the advice as they already know they want to drive, but not how to go about it.
Maybe an article in a ‘girls’ magazine would be a good idea, aim to educate some of those who really haven’t thought about trucking. Given your recent publicity, I should imagine you have a few contacts within that sort of media. Use those contacts to your advantage in your crusade, but dont be disheartened if it doesn’t change the world. so to speak.
Best of Luck

Very wise words.
The novelty of being a woman in this industry does wear off without you realising it, the stamp of experience hits you and your body language changes. The weather worn high mileage wagon driver look about you goes on when you don your boots and you find the whole " A LADY LORRY DRIVER!" thing very tiresome. At this point the fact that you are comfortable within your enviroment and your face doesn’t go white when you engage reverse gear eliminates ■■■■■■ discrimination because all your workmates see is another driver. The problem is when you get to this point you have had so many conversations about being a female wagon driver that you tell people that you are a newsagent just to avoid people going off on one and you aren’t much off a spokesperson promoting the occupation to other women because you don’t like the job anyway and don’t understand why anyone else would want to do it if they didn’t have to.
I have always admired the women that do this job!! They have to put up with such neanderthal reactions.
Many many years ago, back in the mid 80’s I became friends with a great gal who used to drive car transporters. Now in those days, women truckies were VERY few and far between … I watched her one day at a delivery operating the ramps etc and just stood there in awe of her. She was only tiny too, a bit like girlie I suppose.
Yea, once upon a time, this WAS a job for the guys only but those days are long gone. About time some of the neanderthals woke up to the 21st century.
i dont post on here to get girlies into trucking! now that would be stupid… this is why i keep having the same argument with people… cos you lot already know everything… and its not you im aiming this girlie malarkay at!
to be honest since trucking… i end up wearing my work combat trousers at the weekends… and am becoming less girlie because i just cant be arsed after working so hard! (shh dont tell anhyone)
today i did a photoshoot for a local magazine and they did a makeover on me. but i got to do an interview saying how i think other girls should concider it as a career.
i havent ever been trying to appeal to you lot about the girlie thing… just responding to all the stuff thrown at me!
and yes it is getting a little tiring telling people the story of how i became a trucker… i have it recorded and just press a button in my brain. and it seems to take me longer to do everything at work… cos someone always wants to talk to me! i do just wanna get on with m job… but to be honest its a bit of fun and something to keep life interesting… got free hair extesions worth £500 in my make over… you cant knock that! dont know how practical they will be for work… but hey.
The problem is when you get to this point you have had so many conversations about being a female wagon driver that you tell people that you are a newsagent just to avoid people going off on one
Or say you a truck driver and when they ask what you do just tell them you work for a government and you’re not allowed to tell them
Something must have gone seriously wrong in the last 20 odd years of my trucking life. I can honestly say I have never encountered any ■■■ discrimination or really nasty remarks.
There were a couple of tiny jibes when I frist started out but being able to laugh it off with a quick come-back usually was the end of it.
Perhaps it was because I never rose to the bait and certainly never joined in the male/female debate.
Or perhaps it was that I never considered myself to be a ‘Lady Trucker’ - I was just a Trucker - end of - so I was treated as such.
I am sure Girlie is asking for trouble by raising to the bait on here and arguing about it. Just leave it and get on with the job - there are other interesting threads on here that she can join in with if she wants to.
I reckon this one has run it’s course.
hear hear its getting realy teadious who cears if girlie has had a mackover woopy do dar
Ok ok . Girlie, we all know who you are etc etc etc but can you PLEASE STOP talking about me ,me ,me I,I,I(read your posts back, they are all about you and nothing else)…Why not post on other subjects, get invoved in discussions on other facets of our industry? or would that take your spotlight away? I don’t see Lucy et al. banging on about gender they just do what we all do and come on here and discuss or ask questions…Just a thought
