Getting Beyond A [zb] Joke

I’ve worked from a young age a chef for 6 years long hours and saving up, built up a credit rating by having phone contract, credit card, insurance monthly, few direct debit etc and was lucky with the finance for my car.

I still work in the kitchen at the min.
I understand I need to travel but not 100 miles there 100 miles back everyday, petrol costs would work out I’d be working for next to nothing.

I’ve been lucky to have 2 shifts in an artic since passing but that’s it and the company has gone bust just my luck.

but if you find a tramping job, it’s 100 miles there once a week and then 100 miles back five days later. So that’s the same as a 40-mile round trip every day. you’re lucky to have a car, have your licence, and (seemingly) have no real ties and commitments so in theory you could work anywhere in the UK (or even Ireland!) if you’re happy being away all week. Think outside the box and don’t limit yourself to jobs that are on your doorstep!

This.
If he wants it badly enough, this is the way to go/do it.

Sam Millar:
Can’t understand why you’re surprised? As you know we’re the same age and in artic work, it’s not impossible just very hard and you should know this. How can you afford to pay a car on finance if you’re not in work - how did you have a credit score high enough to even get a car on finance at your age? Anyway not that that’s any of my business but still, having a car on finance does not limit how far you can travel with it.

Like others have said, people on here travels mileage into the 3 digits to get to work for the week…time to man up and do what’s needed like we all have to.

Dont you have a fairly new car  IIRC but I knew the OP does work

How could you afford to be cruising around in your new Astra back when you were on the dole and getting your training funded? At least the OP has worked for what he’s got and not relied on hand outs from his daddy or the state. Wind your neck in.

Great93, why do you want to work for Stobart’s that much? If you really want to drive for a living and get out of the kitchen, then you’re going to have to grab any opportunity that comes your way with both hands. From what I hear, you’ve already let two slip away. Let’s hope you get some more. I wouldn’t hold your breath for Stobart’s though.

I hope this helps.

Yeah I’ve got a 10 plate ford focus from new when I passed car test and really attached So dont really want to get rid of it

I only want to work for stobarts as I know loads of drivers in there and if I’m stuck they would really help me.

I let a job slip as there was a confusion I wanted to work out of st Helen’s as its only 20/30 miles from liverpool where I live and all my family are here and my nan recently passed away, the depot the company wanted me in 4 on 4 off was over 80 miles away and it was general haulage, if it was tramping I wouldnt mind.

There’s lots of work round Liverpool as someone stated I’m lucky to be by the m62 m6 etc but as I’m 19 insurance is my enemy.

Loads of companies are happy to employ me but their insurance excess would go up from like 3 thousand to 10 so I’m told.

I’ve been lucky to have had a few shifts in an artic for a company that was my dads mate, but that’s just gone bust :frowning: supply chain logistics had a few Mercedes actross w962 jfa was the registration really old with semi automatic was challenging to drive.

I’ve signed up to another agency in Warrington yesterday seems promising as they told me straight that they’d have to ■■■■ my name out to everyone and see who bites the bait on the end of the fishing rod.

I really don’t want to sound ungrateful as I have a full time Jon averaging 70 hours a week in the restaurant as a chef but I wouldn’t recommend anyone to do my job it’s horrible.

Are you sure it was 80 miles away?

St Helens has never been 30 miles away from Liverpool, even with the Earth’s shifting tectonic plates.

I hope this helps.

Well you know what I mean smart ■■■ haha st Helen’s Is close to me, but the yes the depot was over 80 miles away

On my days off (Wednesday&thursday) ill get myself in the car and try again everywhere hoping my burnt face will get sympathy

Says you, you must be the biggest headed ■■■■■■■ on the forum tbf! I had my car because like the OP I always worked right up until I was made redundant, my car was paid off so get it swiftly round ye! And FYI, I didn’t get hand outs from Daddy. .

Sam Millar:
I didn’t get hand outs from Daddy. .

but its ok to get them from the state ■■■■■

Well ■■■■ me, they offered. I took them up on it  If you have a problem with the way the government works then maybe moaning about it on a truck forum isn’t the best place to do so.

PS it done what it was supposed to do didn’t it? Funding was provided in order to help me gain a qualification so I could find work oh and look, I’m no longer signing on and haven’t been for over a year now.

oh they dont just offer sam you went and asked about funding, dont you need a prof of a job lined up?? could be wrong or maybe sumone told lies to them

Id rather pay for folk to train up to do something they want to do and get a job doing so than paying for Jeremy kyles rejects who que up every 2 weeks to get free money for ■■■■ all. Makes paying tax less painful!

Cheers

Obviously but if someone has the opportunity to have something funded by the tax payer to help them get to that place I’m all for it, atleast its getting folk closer to working. Im currently on an apprenticeship in a warehouse earning okay money that pays for my driving lessons/test but once all passed i’ll be going onto a driving apprenticeship to get my hgv licenses which is funded by the government. Reason being I’ll be in employment for at least 3 years, and I’ll be ‘living the dream’ also ill get some good experience! But all will be revealed soon enough!

Best of luck to the op looking for work, just keep plugging away you’ll have a job eventually!!

If you think they’ll dish out the guts of a grand just on my word alone that I had a job lined up you can think again. Yes you do need something lined up, and yes I did have something lined up in written proof, which they confirmed.

As I’m 19 no one will take me, really stuck and p*ssed off !

Try Robert Wisemen they take on new drivers.

This made me chuckle. It’s been a while since you made me chuckle, Harry. Well done.
