There’s more :frowning: I’ve been to loads of companies in my car on days off within 40 miles of Liverpool, I’ve rang everyday even when I’m in work

As I’m 19 no one will take me, really stuck and p*ssed off !

Try Rhys Davies,

Im 19 and work for them full time, first job i had without any experience.

They have a depot out of Haydock or alternatively Barnsley area which may be worth enquiring in.

rhysdavies.co.uk - If you are gona drop in, suit / tie and P’S + Q’s, good opportunities to be made

Cheers mate ill call them tomorrow, whats the best number to call please?

Presume you have tried stobarts?

Yeah mate I’ve been short listed that’s all I’ve heard

No-one will touch you without 2 years experience on artics, except for a very small handful, so your luck has to be good.

I passed my class 1 at the start of the year and tried everything you put down, plus going round places even in person with copies of my CV for bloody months almost every day… nothing.

Given up now and resigned myself to what I was stuck on before and trying to get out of. Lowly agency work on rigids, and even that is starting to dry up. Duno how long you’ve had your class 2, but maybe you could just drive rigids for 2 years and “work your way up” at a company…? If you don’t have any experience at all even on rigids, then you’ll need to be prepared to drive transit vans and sprinters and stuff like that, then move on to lutons and 7.5 tonners, and work your way up from there.

That’s the only advice I could offer. Whatever you do, I wish you good luck, 'cos luck is the key factor (being in the right place at the right time, knowing someone who’s “already in”, your “face fitting”, etc…). If you’re not really the type of person that gets that kind of good luck, then it doesn’t matter how hard you try or work, you’re ■■■■■■.

I’ve been to companies in person aswell
I’ve applied for Royal Mail on the vans see if I can work my way up.

I’ve said to everyone ill to anything not just class 1.

Thanks mate, and the answer to your question is I don’t have a lot of luck haha been in hospital for a few days badly burnt my face and arm in work with hot oil from a pan, 6 years as a chef and never injured myself apart from on Sunday !

Back in work on Friday but I still went looking/ringing for jobs hoping to get somewhere

Wasnt it you that had two job offers? But was waiting for the “magic” phone call from stobart? What happened to the offers you had?!

Yes but there was a confusion and the depot was too far away from my home mate.

Was thinking that

So how far is to far   :unamused:

80 miles I have my car but that’s too far and expensive on fuel everyday :frowning:

Was it not tramping

No I wouldn’t of minded if it was tramping

So why not relocate or find some dig near the place & home at weekends

Or a cheaper car

As this guy does

He lives in Newcastle works in Brum

I got my start on CE from travelling 150 miles on a Sunday Night and going back on a Friday Night. The work wasn’t the cleanest and I was tired by the end of the week. But it led to work closer to home.

If you desperately want that start then there is no distance that is too far.

Keep trying the local companies. Something will turn up.

Try the recycling companies. Some do skips on WnD.

Try the food service companies (3663, Brakes, etc). It’s long days but they often take newbies on.

It has gone eerily quiet and agency work tends to drop off between Jan-Mar so maybe just sit on the licence till March.

Don’t get too downhearted. We have all been there as far as sitting on a licence until work picks up. (Apart from the very lucky few who walk straight into a job straight away).

Best of luck.

Ill do some more hunting,
I couldn’t relocate away from liverpool all my family is here, my car is on finance so I couldn’t get a cheaper car

I don’t mine travelling 40 miles a day but 80 was too far I unfortunately.

Ill try waste, skips, and food now thanks

Sorry but that dont wash my son moved 120 mile away from all his family for work :bulb: :unamused: he is not much older than you at 23

no offence great93, but you say you’ve been offered a handful of jobs in recent weeks and have turned them all down for various reasons. I know you’re desperate for a call from Stobart, and I really can’t see you taking a job on skips, so why not bite the bullet and look for tramping jobs that mean you have to drive 100 miles each way once a week? The excuse about moving away form family won’t stand up if you’re out tramping for 5 or 6 days a week will it?

If you want to work, you need to have a think about what your priorities are - getting a job and experience, however and wherever you can, or being able to see your family every night and be in that comfort zone. I’m sure there are loads of firms within an hour’s drive of you that you could approach about tramping - you’re in a good spot close to M6 and M62 - but if you’re gonna keep turning jobs down with flimsy excuses while hanging on for Stobart to call, you will never get a start.

Can’t understand why you’re surprised? As you know we’re the same age and in artic work, it’s not impossible just very hard and you should know this. How can you afford to pay a car on finance if you’re not in work - how did you have a credit score high enough to even get a car on finance at your age? Anyway not that that’s any of my business but still, having a car on finance does not limit how far you can travel with it.

Like others have said, people on here travels mileage into the 3 digits to get to work for the week…time to man up and do what’s needed like we all have to.
