I am on my way down m1 , Sheffield to rugby truckstop. Normally I am 50-52 mph guy(fuel bonuses) but I had same driving time as arrival time on my ■■■■ nav. So I go flat out. Just incase I hit a queue. Normally with a snooper you can gain time flat out on motorway and dual.
I pass junction the m6 joins m1, brick lorry in front must be doing 50-52mph (I am 55mph) as he pulls in I keep out. Got a quicker lorry behind I am hoping to get past and move over for him behind, As I am almost cab level, slightly back I find myself not passing very quick, dik in brick lorry has upped his speed, I am 2 miles off crick junction. I have someone licking my back doors waiting to pas me so I can’t let off. I sit with it and half mile from junction 18 I just get past and in. Looking behind brick lorry as dropped his speed I guess to 50-52? Wtf■■? Pure morron!! To be honest that was the second brick lorry to do that to me within the hour. Must be some funny game they play?? No overunning, uphill and i am light.
I know when I am doing my 52 and someone is struggling to pass I back off half mph, if I see someone slowly gaining behind me I tap my speed up a half mile an hour. Just to even it out, if they are still gaining i drop it back a few clicks. I like to think I give some respect.
I know I can’t expect everybody to be the same. It’s just bloody annoying.
Then to top it off stobarts have really messed this truckstop up! Half the spaces now, solo units wasting big spaces. Why have they ■■■■■■ up a decent stop??was there not anywhere else to buy? Or rent??

Since i’ve got my new lorry i’ve backed off to 52 due to fuel… Went to pass someone on the A1 last week let all the cars go first, then pulled out and off he went… Probably assumed i was already on my limiter …
Ill have a bit of fun with a bloke but never go that far. When I say fun, Ill go past, then he will get a hill and he can go past, Ill usually knock it off a click or two to give him a helping hand. Once this has gone on for a few miles, Ill give it a boot full and go find someone else who wants to play. Mine will do 57 on the Nav when its on the limiter so there ain’t many I cant get past.

I wouldnt find that much fun , just like to be left alone to crack on at my own pace instead of someone getting under my feet, hense why i leave a few clicks to spare… Not having a go btw, each to their own i spose. What ■■■■■■ me off is people who mince about trying to overtake everything then find their 420 can barely pull itself up the slightest hill it comes to…

Oh, Im not a ■■■■ about it. I keep an eye on the other driver and if he is looking a bit miffed I crack on a turn of speed and find someone who is looking alive to play with.

Just for fun I did the maths…assuming it was 2 miles, and it was 55mph and 52mph…
At 52 mph would have taken 2 minutes 18 seconds to get to the junction
At 55 mph he could get to the junction in a mere 2 minute 11 seconds.
Getting to his destination 7 seconds quicker.
There comes a point is isn’t worth the stress!
Couldn’t give a toss what any of them get up to, i do my speed, if someone wants to overtake fine, if i want to overtake then fine too.
If they muck about i just stay where i am in my own little world till either i’m past them or they’re past me.
Life’s got enough stresses as it is and the country has gone to the dogs…literally as todays news from Woolwich proves…buggered if i’m going to get excited about some numpty kid in a lorry speeding up and slowing down, if it pleases him in some strange way so be it.

As for all the other old twaddle from others about “playing” with other drivers and all the verbal ■■■■ about how fast their trucks are compared to the other losers, being able to do 57mph!!! (OMG, how does the human body manage to keep breathing at such speeds?) It’s just like Top Trumps in the bloody playground. Get over yourselves, FGS.
Perhaps the brick driver should post why do people overtake me then turn off? also if the brick lorry had a mechanical limiter then he would go down to 52 then speed up again.
I’ve been driving our 05 this week, and it can easily do 56-57mph. Been cruising at 52 and keeping 5mph spare incase someone acts the ■■■■■. Makes things so much less stressful, knowing there’s plenty in reserve, it’s worked for me and I’m sure it saved a fair bit of fuel. Got about a 400 litre tank and used 3/4 of tank doing about 900 odd kms.
I’m all for 52 mph but leave the limiter set to 56.
Got to say I find it 1 of the most stressful parts of the job.If someone as gained on me and I am on the limiter when they start to overtake I just nock it down a click and they are gone in no time. I agree with brucey 106 when it happens to me and they keep you out it really does wind me up and they are usually the ones that don’t flash you in either

Im doing exactly the same as you mate, never sit on the limiter any more, sit at 52 but can do 55. The difference its made to stress levels has really surprised me, dont have any of this crawling past people anymore holding traffic up, dont have to worry about people speeding up and as for the fuel savings… 11mpg out of a V8 over the past 3-4weeks tank to tank…
At least all of you were safe, one day coming down the M40 loaded i obviously went faster down hill than up with only 340hp in an 8 wheeler so would go past a certain car transporter who would then overtake me when going uphill. He must have got fed up of this because as i was coming past him yet again he just pulled straight out into my lane pushing me into the outside lane. The cars must have seen what was happening because they hung back and flashed for me to go into the outside lane or the car transporter would have collided with me. I overtook the ct and pulled back into middle lane and thanked each car as it went by, they all acknowledged me in a nice way as they carried on their journey.
My Actros does 90km/h. I set the cruise to 88+2 km/h. Doing this will automatically engage the retarder when I hit 91 to prevent overspeeds. It’s also more relaxing as it takes me out the equation with all the other 90km/h’ers. It also gives me a few km\h spare if I do creep up on somebody, I always know I’ve got the juice to get past fairly quickly.
If someone does pass me I always flash then back off the cruise for a few seconds to maintain a safe distance.
Even doing this on a 150 mile journey I only ever arrive a few minutes later than what the sat-nav says. I’m paid by the hour so what the hell, I don’t need the stress.
How stupid is the 52 mph thing ? especially in a 60 mph limit ffs.
When I first had my lorry limited to 60 mph in 93 it was bad, then later models were set at 56, now they are turning them down to 52 FFS
It’s hillarious to say the least and to think I complain about mine now being at 66 mph. I think the 52 limit is downright dangerous, it would send me to sleep anyway.
On the other side of this topic, people are tossers in general, do what I now do after being in the situation countless times … Don’t pull over, just keep going in the same lane, it’s not your duty to move over, it’s their duty to either increase their speed or decrease it to merge safely.
