Genuine answer to why people do it?

Pat Hasler:
How stupid is the 52 mph thing ? especially in a 60 mph limit ffs.
When I first had my lorry limited to 60 mph in 93 it was bad, then later models were set at 56, now they are turning them down to 52 FFS
It’s hillarious to say the least and to think I complain about mine now being at 66 mph. I think the 52 limit is downright dangerous, it would send me to sleep anyway.

On the other side of this topic, people are tossers in general, do what I now do after being in the situation countless times … Don’t pull over, just keep going in the same lane, it’s not your duty to move over, it’s their duty to either increase their speed or decrease it to merge safely.

I totally agree, this limiter business is bullcrap, keep the set road speeds for trucks and let drivers sort it out themselves, they are capable I am sure and those that aren’t will get nicked.

I know bell ends, some people do it to be knobs.

With other people particularly car drivers I think it’s a built in involuntary, caveman DNA thing whereby if you see something in your peripheral vision gaining on you, you speed up so you don’t get eaten.

Juddian:
Couldn’t give a toss what any of them get up to, i do my speed, if someone wants to overtake fine, if i want to overtake then fine too.

If they muck about i just stay where i am in my own little world till either i’m past them or they’re past me.

Life’s got enough stresses as it is and the country has gone to the dogs…literally as todays news from Woolwich proves…buggered if i’m going to get excited about some numpty kid in a lorry speeding up and slowing down, if it pleases him in some strange way so be it.

100% agree.
I’ve done a few personal experiments on this when I’ve been driving my car.
If you stay at the exact same speed and go for an overtake then the vehicle being overtaken will speed up slightly, not on purpose of course but the sub conscious psyche of the driver tells them that there is something entering their territory. It’s not bollox it’s true.

As I put up with this every day in the truck, it’s exactly why I drive my car at about 90mph on my days off as its usually enough to keep everyone behind me where they belong

haha

Pimpdaddy:
I hate trucks & or their drivers that do 50/52 or whatever waste of everybody’s [zb] time speed you want to do… :imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

Thats exactly the kind of comment you’d expect from someone that can’t even string a coherent sentence together…

Getting to his destination 7 seconds quicker.
There comes a point is isn’t worth the stress!

FFS slow down

just knock the limiter off for a minute. :unamused:

No overunning, uphill and i am light.
I

So he’s got bricks on going up hill??
Ever thought that he may of changed down a gear and his truck was slowly winding back up?
Not condoning him though, I always let the passing truck go and especially when there was an even faster one behind.

He was half loaded. Might of been light blocks god knows??
And I caught him quite quickly, I was trying to make good time. Seeing as I was gaining quite quick I stayed out. But if you read my post you would of read he gained speed as I was level with his cab. And this a slight incline not a massive hill. I expect bored people to make a meal of this. I actually could not post this last night so decided not to. But hey presto it’s posted.

If I could read another drivers mind I would stay behind before I turn off next time lol

If all trucks did 55/56 with no half mile differences we would all be sat few lengths behind each other nicely but it don’t happen. I actually think its pleasant if I am doing 52, the person passes quicker at 55/56. It’s nice and simple. Have you ever noticed how much traffic builds up on a motorway when two trucks take 5 miles to pass each other?
Like some have said when you need it its there. I know when I am approaching something 3 mph slower I start looking behind for a nice space to get my self in the middle lane to pass safely.

I went up the A1 in my car oneday and I was on cruise control at 70ish, as I was passing someone he increased his speed. (Must give a scent off to warn people i am coming lol) but the 290bhp/360torque I have came in handy for a few seconds. Can’t do bob all in your lorry when this happens, but swear to yourself and pull back in.
I also got a taste of the 70-75mph and having a Hgv pull out to pass another. Amazing how quick you roll up behind. But I am calm and collected about it as I know what it’s all about. I think if all drivers could drive all vehicles there might be a bit more respect on the road. I said a bit

Dan Punchard:
If the so called ■■■■ is doing 52 and you can only do 55 why are you trying to pass for the sake of 2 miles ?

Because how quick I started passing I did not think it would be an issue pal! When I realised I was stuck side by side. I checked sat nav and it said two miles. I thought to back off but it was 50/50 what to do. I stuck with it sadly. if i did not get past i would of stopped at red lion instead, think thats only 10-15 mins further max? I nearly came off at j20 to go rugby t/stop.

Sorry it posted twice.
