General drivers strike!

Following on from the tanker drivers news, I’m curious how many of you would support a general drivers strike??
I would for the right reason & that would be pay ! Personally I think all other issues are secondary and should be dealt with around a negotiating table. But if pay could be raised for everybody across the board then yes I would. How about you ■■?

depends on the terms, it would have to be about more then pay for me, treatment of drivers , services and there quality. and of course a bit more education to joe public about how to react round trucks.

I’m perfectly happy with my lot so no

No, I’ve got my work sorted how I want it at the moment, and for the last few years. Easy life and good money, so not going to jeopardise that.

Have any companies got any money for pay increases with the steep rises in costs ? I’m keeping my head above water with what I get and would think there are thousands out there that would jump in my shoes for my job given the chance !

I’m happy enough where I am money is good for the hours worked. Hours suit my personal life decent legal truck to do the job in question.

Striking certanly isnt the answer

I take it you’re joking and are not serious that you would strike in order to get the general public educated about how to react around trucks■■? Now that would be a total waste of time and effort.

I wouldn’t strike I’m happy at my place.

i think a refusal to enter RDCs is what is required, they treat drivers with complete contempt.
the issue of pay is not a concern for me. but there are a lot of drivers that want everything for doing nothing.
i work hard, finish when the jobs done, and i get paid a lot of money for this.
but some try to dictate terms, like, i only want days/nights/no weekends. well for me, that isn’t being a lorry driver. if the job i’m on means being away for several weeks, then that’s how it is.

Agency dont strike

its all a joke mate! i wouldn’t strike full stop i wouldn’t be setting criteria in an industry were i am lucky to be working! i know theres 1000s of guys out there aching to have MY job and i would not put that on the line! if i felt hard done by i would talk it through with management or get a different job.
as for the RDC i agree they are the equivalent of dictatorship work camps and the RHA should be getting in there

A drivers strike you must be joking! You have more chance of seeing England win Euro 2012, Shergar winning this year’s Derby or Lord Lucan attending this year’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Yes, this industry should be worth £15 per hour. If drivers stuck together it would happen but as you can see from the replies too many people are satisied with poor wages and conditions.

You put it better than I ever could !

It will be interesting to see how many ADR drivers are available to cover all this anticipated work…

How much would you object to being taken off your regular agency job, to be put on this, should no extra pay be offered?

I reckon it’s got to be worth at least bank holiday rate.

Petrol stations around here don’t seem to be getting any deliveries, although it might be to do with tanker drivers turning up, seeing the huge queue of cars leaving them unable to approach the station, and then refusing to make the drop - before a strike has even started!

No it wouldn’t its called supply and demand, we’re in a recession, to many drivers and not enough jobs.

or people savvy enough to realise that until the economy improves, their wages and conditions are going to be relevent and any job is better than no job, but feel free to dream on :unamused:

This industry deserves £15 per hour, maybe, but who can afford to pay that on the first 40 hours. £30ph for Sunday I will have some of that, you can have the rest.

I saw your Nellie the other day, she said it’s not on! :stuck_out_tongue:

You don’t know what my or anyone elses wages and conditions are but FYI both are excellent

I’ve always maintained a good level of pay and don’t tolerate poor conditions. All done on my own without the need for gathering around a burning barrel
