Well so we don’t clog up other threads I’d thought I’ll start this one so us Gen X and Boomer’s can Moan about the here and now and reminisce about how good it was and how we could do XYZ bust now struggle to even do ABC ![]()
I’m 50 , need glasses for distance and reading , dodgy right knee , left ankle swells , 19st 2lb ![]()
Can’t do what I could 10 years ago
10pm is a very late night , 9pm is late but can get up at 2am easy ![]()
Thing to do mate is think young… .![]()
Age is but a number, (I ain’t talking about those in bad health either…..I got a telling off from Ady already on that one….. but you are as young or as old as you want to be.
It’s getting the balance right between not letting the number of your age stop you doing (or at least trying) something, and exceeding your ability, not to mention embarrasing yourself …..what I was on about on other thread.
Sure like you I have stuff wrong with me, who doesn’t but wtf.
I am in the state of mind I am still in my late 30s, although my own lad is that age. …I don t walk around in skinny jeans and a One Direction t shirt, but neither do I dress like my Dad, I’ve been told by many I do not look my age….ok they were passing on galloping horses from the blind school , but there ya go.
.
It s getting the balance right……a lot of guys my age were ‘‘old’’ or at least acting it 30 years ago, and my younger Mrs keeps me on track.
I enjoy my life both family and social now as much as I did 30+ years ago.
Boomer here, 6’2” 17 stone, and I’ve started feeling every one of my 73 years. Not long ago, I was totin’ a guitar like a guitar god…..ish
& nowadays, I only sit with one because the knees & back complain. I’m post prostate cancer so f^^k you cancer, That bloody hormone treatment coupled with the cancer treatment has left me wi manboobs & child bearing hips,
I’ve got DVT & take blood thinners but am I pished? Not at all.
I know I’m old, but I don’t feel it, I’m still n n n n n nineteen in me yed, but if I turn around quickly I’ll end up on me ‘arris. Ever since retiring from the daily grind I’m enjoying life like never before, you need interests/hobbies though, or you’ll go stir-crazy.
I cant fault ya for thinking positive mate…but 19 ?![]()
Jeez when I remember stuff I did at 19
, even I ain’t THAT deluded…….thought I was bad enough with late 30s.![]()
The only thing thats 19 about me is the 19st 2 I weigh
I make a noise when I sit down, I make a noise when I stand up. There’s no earthly reason why I should make that noise, I just do.
Cutting my toenails has become a Krypton factor exercise, same as putting my socks on has.
I hold the bannister both going up and coming down the stairs.
I’m constantly surprised by the mirror! I expect a twenty something guy, I get my father looking back at me.
Getting old is crap, but it’s infinitely better than the alternative.
I’ve got my fathers same receding hair line
I also have my Dad’s ‘hairline’.
To the point where I now ‘comb’ it with a flannel.![]()
Jeez mate ![]()
I know I ain’t seen you for a couple of years even if we keep in touch…but it sounds like you’ve let yerself gan a bit…..even I used to be impressed with your build and stature…I’m frankly now shocked.
![]()
(Christ I’ll get some stick for that.
)
Had to Google Gen X years.. and found I’m too young for this thread ![]()
You Gen Z then
No I’m too old for that ![]()
It would appear I’m Millennial or Gen Y
I’m 66 and happy to do mission Impossibles like catching an almost midnight train out of London to Leeds then Transpennine express to Brighouse and then a long walk to the outskirts of Huddersfield for an early trade plate collection back to London and home well before lunchtime.
To add this year’s Summer holiday was a 4,000 mile jaunt. One hit drive to the Tyrol.A week of touring around and mountain hiking there. Then on for another week of similar Ligurian Coast and Appuan Alps.Back for another 4 days in French Alps around Grenoble. Then back to Le Mans Classic lots of walking around the circuit in the blazing sunshine watching and hearing great cars ironically highlight being a Can Am car doing demo runs.
Next Summer same again and then to Sardinia my favourite coastline.
I’m a Boomer too. A few years back Mercedes had “Oh Lord, won’t you buy a Mercedes Benz” as the music on their adverts. When I started singing (badly) along the kids thought I was up to date… Same with Lady Marmalade when “Moulin Rouge” film was new.
I’m not writing a list of what’s wrong with me , it would be easier to do one with what’s right with me
But weight wise ( wife weighed me last night ) at 12 st 11 lbs I’m doing ok , by the look of this thread ![]()
![]()
![]()
Last time i was that weight was just before my coeliac diagnosed in 2018
And was a 34 waist
Not being American, I’m not a ‘boomer’, I’m of the ‘post-war bulge’.![]()
My trousers are 32 inch and wife has moved the button to tighten them up as they keep falling down ![]()
, weight is monitored a lot , not just diabetic wise , hospital always seem to
Be doing it a lot , I guess if you start to loose a lot it would indicate there’s a issue
