If you are a noob remember this and other threads like it.End of the day its your licence dont fly around trying to make up on lost time.If you cant do a timed delivery phone it in let the office bods sort it out ,thats what they are paid for.
I am finishing mid July I’ve been a truck driver 27 years and now have the best job I’ve ever had but its time to slow down for me,the wife as just got a job in Devon so that’s the way forward.I could sit here and make a list of the good and the bad about truck driving but you could all do the same and for a guess most of you would see more bad than good like me
Good luck in the future
I’ve posted on several threads about this subject,
in a nut shell after doing 12years doing continental work I woke up one morning in the truck and decided that was it ,
10 years on I have no regrets about giving it all up .
I now have a job to die for ,
I never ever thought jobs and the conditions I have existed.
toby1234abc:
I can not blame you,the job is stuffed;
EE hauliers taking all our international work.
Congested roads.
Roads shut for hours after fatal Rtc’s.
General public that assume goods are transported by magic fairies.
Horendous driving by other Lgv drivers.
Your mental and physical health will improve now.
Nothing new my friend
In my 50 years of being "on the road"until I retired, Drivers having be saying the same thing,so nothing new there, but they still carry on

I love these threads… Very inspirational to us newbeesaw well only another 40 odd years til I can hang up me keys. Although keys will probably be antiques by then
You will be fine as you know what you getting into from the start. Old hands who are reluctant to change feel the changes more or have just become dissillusioned with the industry in general have a good point and sometimes a change is better then a rest. Sure some of us go through the male ‘truckopause’.
Although in 20 years you may fancy a change (you will be on big bucks by then ) the call of the open road is often too strong to ignore and a year or two off will see you clammering to get back in the saddle.
Edit as I have just invented a new word:
‘Truckopause’: No longer a desire to drive trucks, partake in witty banter with fellow truckers, sleep in other peoples ■■■■. Similar to female menopause but with less dryness of the ■■■■■…
I have recently reinstated my hgv and psv licenses, but at this moment in time have little desire to return to driving as a living. The hassles with traffic jams and idiot drivers have always existed, but changes to legislation and things like being forced to sit in drivers rooms for eons have really taken the shine off it.
Good luck with wherever life takes you.

I’d probly like driving a van around if it was similar money.
In some cases it can’t be any less! There is hardly anything in it when you work out how many hours you do yo the hourly rate of those on vans at my place.
i think that nostalga has got a lot to answer to,you forget all the bad after a few years away
Bloody DVLA…Now they have “lost” my licence in the system so have revoked it on the basis of not sending it in. And no, I didn’t send it recorded.
I suppose when I get it sorted I will probably be called to see Ms Bell.
TBH if that happens, I won’t bother…she can have my LGV
I want to get out but havent got any skills to get a job paying same sort of money. Looked atgoing in to transport office but scale id need to start at money isnt very good.
To get me off the road I took a job as a In store technician at my local tesco’s , all you did was basic maintenance on the shop and equipment and if something didn’t work then have a quick look at it ,check fuses etc , if you couldn’t fix then call it out . Every supermarket company has a technician on site , I only used this job as a stepping stone so I could get to interviews for other jobs ,

when i was made redundant did a few years on agency then when i moved to the seaside i swore i would get a steady job at somewhere like tesco as a trolley dolly
Well it won’t be in Bridlington. Its had one of the highest rates of unemployment in the county consistently since the 1980’s.
I always find it quite hilarious when people move to Bridlington based on their experiences of going on holiday. They then find there’s no jobs other than wiping old folks backsides for minimum wage, they can’t park in town during summer and it takes 10 times longer to go anywhere, everything costs money, crime is rife because the town is riddled with junkies and the place is closed from September to April and is quite frankly a bit ■■■■.
I have been offered a job away from driving until end of feb next year but could be longer good money 35 hour week average no early starts just cannot decide if I should leave the agency I now work for as I currently have a good job with them and would I get back in next year.
I jacked the driving in some time ago having got a job where I do no early starts, can walk to both the office and the railway station when I need to go to London and am treated properly and not like an idiot as is common in the haulage game. Good variety of things to do and see and usually only two or three days a week in the office.
Best move I ever made and under no circumstances whatsoever will I ever be voluntarily going back to driving a truck.
The job I now have is 35hrs a week but this includes some 12hr shifts sat and Sunday which are deducted from your 35hrs,
I’m treated and spoken to like a human being , it’s great !!
And when you look at my rosta I only work 17 days a month and better still it’s nothing to do with truck driving,
Everyone told me that I would be back behind the wheel in a few months of giving it up , but 10 years on I can honestly say I’ve got no intensions of going back truck driving unless I had to ,
All I will say is give it a go,

I had a day out in brid last year and must admit it has gone to the dogs, called in weatherspoons for a breakfast in the morning ,it was about 10.30 and it was packed with people who looked like tramps and were totally hammered ,the noise inside was unbearable with the drunks shouting

How does your current income compare with your previous driving one?

try asking her how far she goes on first dates…
we look forward to the answer.
Ezydriver,
my basic is £31.84 x 35 hrs = £1114 per wk x 4 =£4457.60 a month
and we are paid 13 times a year . = £57948
No doubt someone on here is going to say I’m bull shtting and they earn more .
I’ve shown my pay slip in previous posts to prove people that I don’t bull sh t about wages.
