Currently taking my Rigid license. Took my theory on Wednesday and passed and have my practical booked mid November. I’m based in Hailsham in East Sussex.
Anyone know what kind of pay check to expect? Or anyone on here looking for drivers? Willing to work day night, full time ideally…
There are agencies who take on new starts and that’s your first port of call, once you have gained some experience of working in this industry you can begin to look for regular work, even without the relative 2 yrs.
good luck and welcome to Trucknet and the Industry.
The majority of employers do require at least two years experience. You may get lucky and find an agency that will take on a new starter with the Christmas rush soon to start and if you prove yourself during this time they might keep you on once it goes quiet. The alternative is to sit on the licence for 2 years then start looking again, you’ll just have to be a bit creative with your work history
Night-and-day:

The problem with this is, SOME companies/agencies will require to see maybe 6 months driving in the last x amount of time. I’m not trying to ■■■■ on your parade, just saying how it sometimes is.
You need to have a good look at the newbees and wanabees forum, its all big boys on here .With Christmas coming up Royal Mail ,Parcel Farce and Tuffnells might give you a break.
Agency. You will be most likely doing multidrop but its experience. Keep plugging away, make sure you take care of the truck and be respectful to other drivers etc. Soon companies will no longer ask for an “agency driver”, they will ask for you personally.
Knock on doors the old fashioned way with all your bits n bobs to hand, ask to see the TM and present yourself, It will be a long hard demoralising effort but someone will take a punt on you, maybe not on the day but a good manager will see the effort you have put in, It is too easy and lazy to bulk mail CV’s out.
The only issue you will come across, the 1 star burger flipping reject Adolf in the security hut
Most companies will require you to have held your HGV licence for a minimum of 12 months, others 24 months. Our insurers won’t cover anyone who has not held their HGV entitlement for at least a year. Silly really, as a driver who has been driving full time for 3 months is far better than one who has held their licence for a year and never driven, but I don’t make the rules!
Pay rates vary tremendously. I have seen everything from minimum wage upto £20/hour advertised.
So he can follow him to Bethlehem to ask for a miracle?
Try “Blue Arrow” they supply drivers for bin contracts. Just a common sense safety assessment and you’ve got a nice slow job to gain confidence.
