Both these pieces choke me up.
Nimrod is always played by my Regimental band at military funerals, and Barber’s adagio is something you could just close your eyes and drift off to.
I will have my band, “The Blues and Royals”, or at least their CD, playing Abide with me with The Last Post.
And just thinking about it, I must be getting near the front of the queue!
I’ve even got my own priest, my wife is a vicar. Strong lady, she conducted my brother’s funeral, and her mum and dad’s, so I’ve told her to hang on and take mine.

  1. Richard Tauber singing “Handel’s Largo”
  2. Judith Durham singing “To Everything Turn Turn Turn” (includes the line a time to be born, a time to die), the wonderful guitar riff in the middle to be played at full volume!
  3. Lesley Garrett singing “Abide With Me”, her voice in the last verse soaring above the choir sends a shiver down my spine, although I’ll be very surprised if it does on that day!
  4. To conclude, a recording of my late father, a very fine semi professional tenor, singing “Panis Angelicus” recorded in 1959 on a tape recorder and that I have had re-mastered and put on CD.

That should do it.

Burn Baby Burn-Disco Inferno by The Tramps

10,000 miles. By Mary Chapin Carpenter. From the film; Fly Away Home. The bit where the strings come in always tears me up.

Je t’aime by Jane Birkin and serge gainsbourg !! just a joke

EddieCockran “Three Steps To Heaven”

How about “Keep yer feet still Geordie Hinney” Larry, I can just recall my Grandad Dickinson Oliver singing this song when I was about 7 or 8 ! Cheers Dennis.
