I got a couple of these fuelgrips (advertised on the banner on the right) a few months ago and I find it utterly impossible to recommend to anyone. The plastic is too flimsy to withstand the spring loading on most pumps I’ve tried it on and it normally pings off the handle immediately.
It’s a decent idea in concept but I suspect it wasn’t thoroughly field tested. One made out of metal or thicker plastic would actually work.
I can really only use mine to hold the AdBlue pump open. HGV diesel pumps are a no no for it.
I have a 2’ length of scaffold tube that I use to tighten the dog tensioners, luckily I have slots for uprights in the body so keep it one of those and also use it as a handrail when climbing up and a fuel grip when refuelling. A piece of scaffold tube about 6" long is just as good though.
i use a wedge shaped piece of wood, it never breaks, fits all pumps and it must be about as simple as it gets, why anyone would buy such cheap nasty plastic crap as advertised is beyond me

Agreed. Any place that has pallets will have some dog end bits of wood knocking about that will do the job.
I usually holler for assistance from a class 2 driver, which you generally find adjacent to you on the pumps, and ask him if he minds fuelling my class 1 whilst I attend to more important issues within the confounds of the cab.

Here is a novel idea why don’t the petrol stations properly maintain the pumps and ensure that the fittings are in place to keep the pump flowing seem to manage it well it enough on the continent or would the cost of the wee pin that is required eat into their vast profits and send them all bankrupt overnight

Me too! If I find a particularly reluctant one I make him clean my mirrors as well, just for having the temerity to question my instructions. Bloody oiks.
