As for the price of diesel, who cares? I don’t have to pay for it and if the company I work for goes under because they haven’t budgeted properly, that’s their problem. I’ll just get another job.
When I first started up I wanted to build up to a small fleet. One of the reasons I didn’t was because I was scared I’d end up with an amployee with just this kind of attitude.
I immediatly think if he/she dosn’t care if I go bust would he/she care how they treated the vehicle?
Would they bother to turn up on time?
Would they ring in if they were sick?
Would they use the company phone fors hours of personal calls?
Would they sell my diesel to the ■■■■■■?
The list goes on
So all those employers that are on here let me ask you this.
Would this be the t pe of driver who would be first on your list when their old company has gone bust because it could no longer compete with it’s foreign rivals?
half the reason i got out of the building game was the non stop greif and cost of employing men, i had two and at times three on the job, all on the books, you had to employers insurance you had provide this that and the other for them, you had to pay N.I over and above what you stopped em out of their wages and the amount of paper work involved for each bloke was ridiculouse, basicaly i was unpaid clerk for the inland revenue for six hours a week.
i’d plan a job, the prices were tight because we were competing against other firms in the area, i’d get everything organissed to the last detail, material delivery times plant hire on certain days etc etc, get to monday to start the job and one of em had been on the beer and not turned out and the whole plan went out the window! pull the bloke up when he eventually turned up, " sorry mate, just put it down as a holiday day for me, would yer?"
the stress levels were unbelievable and how much did i actually make out of employing those lads? nothing! when you worked it all out, what it cost to employ em you were lucky to cover their wages each week and yet every man i ever had on, was convinced i was earning a fortune
i packed it in and vowed never to employ anyone again and i never will.
1] Coffeeholic: Jobs round here are 10 a penny. There’s a massive shortage of drivers however. Consequently we don’t have to put up with the sort of treatment dished out to workers during Thatcherism. I regularly used to work 50 - 60 hours a week in poor conditions and for a low wage, I now deserve better and the government I voted in recognises the need to protect employees from unscrupulous employers.
Also, in case you haven’t noticed the news today, fuel prices have gone down.
2] north surrey haulage: I’ve no idea what an amployee is, perhaps you’ll let us know. I wouldn’t want to work for someone who was bothered about their employees using the company phone, don’t you want them speaking to their families? Would you pay them if they were off sick? Perhaps it’s as well you didn’t start up a fleet
3] paul b: I’m amazed the Inland Revenue understood anything you sent them - your spelling’s atrocious!
I never said I wasn’t on good money at present, but that’s only because I had to negotiate my own pay rises. You might be surprised to hear it but my boss would probably say that I was one of his most reliable workers. I’ve never phoned in sick because I’ve been on the booze, I turn up on time for every shift and I don’t mistreat company property. HOWEVER, I don’t put up with being ripped off or treated badly. I know my rights. I don’t know why you think I’d want to be an employer, who wants to be hated all the time? And you can’t give 110% mate, it’s mathematically impossible.

Congratulations for posting the most immature reply yet. Your just jealous!! (note the correct spelling) - straight from the school playground. I came on here when I heard about the ridiculous fuel protests, thinking that the good old British Truck Driver would never be taken in by all the rubbish spouted by the Tory organisers.
Well, I was wrong because to a man you’ve all fallen for the con. These protests have been organised by the sad muppets who can’t bear the fact that there isn’t a Tory Government. They failed last time to bring down Tony Blair and they will fail again.
This thread was about the fuel protests and it has gone completely off subject - probably because what I said in the first place has a ring of truth to some of you but you don’t want to upset anybody on here by agreeing with me, so you resort to childish replies.
The sooner you wake up and see that it is the bosses who are to blame the better.

Talking of childish, just about every one of your posts has fallen into that category
I get the feeling that you are posting to cause an upset and not to contribute to the debate. Are you in someway related to Phoney Blair ?
Ok. Enough. I’m too tired to mess about editing out every single dig and bite, so I’ll stick to saying that one more off-topic/personal attack laden/otherwise childish post and this thread will be pulled without further notice.

Typical ‘argument’ quoted by management I’m afraid. Worry people into thinking they’ll lose their jobs and you can do what you like with them.

meatpaste,
you’ve got me interested and a little confussed, you say you hate your boss, you don’t care about the price of fuel and you don’t care if the firm you work for goes bust. you then also say that you turn out every day and do a good job for which you get paid what you consider good money! theres also a vast amount of work in your area, so much so, you could walk down the road and get another job tommorow, but your still in the same job?
have i missed something?
