Your never too young to make a will, especially if you’ve dependants. In that case it’s very important.
some thing interesting in the video report on this site about 2 cars 400m up road from crash site

Just saw newspaper reports in Sainsburys; Express says “Lorrys’ petrol tanks exploding” I didnt spot a classic commercial amongst the wreckage…also other rags mentioned the Iceland and TNT lorries burning; these looked only crash damaged to me…
Anyone know if all the lorry drivers are accounted for?Samworth Brothers have said that 2 of their vehicles were involved but it didn’t mention anything about the drivers so I’m assuming they were not on the list of seven.
There was two samworth trucks involved two of the drivers in the same cab have died and the thrid is critical in hospital.
Rest in peace all.

You join a motorway and slot in on which something like resembles a conveyer belt, thus you are sat there unable to make any head way with the vehicle in front or pull away from the vehicle behind with only feet between each vehicle.I have always said speed limiters are a recipe for disaster, as with out doubt, they cause major bunching up of HGV’s with no one easing off the pedal to leave a safe distance.
I drive night trunk, and can from experience, tell you that i have seen it take from Keele to Knutsford services for one HGV to pass another with neither willing to give way.I don’t pull over any more to let someone on at a slip road, as you are left stuck in the middle lane for miles elephant racing with the driver on the inside who wont back off…
Just because you can’t go any faster doesn’t mean you can’t slow down.
A little thought and you could soon find yourself in space of your own, still at the speed you want to be at
and only a little way behind the bunch of trucks you were in when you joined the motorway. If you get bored, you can then spend the time watching which comedian takes the most miles to pass the comedian in front, instead of being one of the comedians.
moomooland,again:
Who on earth do you think you are questioning my attitude??
You obviously have no idea what or who you are talking about.
I have been driving HGV’s for almost 36 years and never had an accident on a motorway. With due respect, if you think you can’t do as suggested above, you haven’t learnt much in the 36 years and if that is your reaction to criticism, you aren’t likely to in the next 36.
Regards,
Nick

Its very sad to loose a colleague in an incident like this, but to loose two, and possibly a third, is unthinkable. Thoughts go out to Samworth’s drivers.

As this seems to have been missed by all the people arguing amongst themselves…tyler4164:
Back to the accident, my step daughters mate has just come in & informed me that her sisters best mates dad was driving one of the trucks involved in this accident & has lost his life in this tragic accident. Its not clear at this time if he died at the accident scene or later in hospital but nether the less he has lost his life while trying to earn a living. He was from Patchway Bristol just down the road from me.So sad to hear this
Can we please stop with all the arguing, slagging each other off and name calling ? this isn’t the right place for it, take it to another thread or pm’s if you feel the need to inflate your own personal egos.
I just saw that post, very sad news , RIP driver
Just watched news on ITV, they mentioned all of the victims that died by name but then said 2 lorry drivers from Cornwall make the death toll 7.
Made it sound like they were 2nd class citizens. Did they not deserve to be mentioned properly with the same respect of the other unfortunate souls.
R.I.P. to all that lost their lives and condolences to the families.

Without wanting to get too graphic they may not have been formally identified yet due to the fire. They know which vehicle(s) they came from and probably know who they should be but without formal identification they won’t release names which could, unlikely but could, later prove to be wrong. It could take dental records or DNA to identify them.

Yeah did think that after I’d posted the other comment. Sorry.

It also talked about Britain’s worst motorway accident.
What criteria do they use, number of fatalities or number of injuries?
Is it is the number of vehicles?.
Multiple Road Traffic Accident on the M25
1984, Tuesday 11 December: A serious multiple Road Traffic Accident (RTA) on the M25 close to the boundary with Kent; nine people were killed and ten injured.
1991 Hungerford M4, Ten dead, 45 vehicles.
Some coaches have had higher causalities, some laden with schoolchildren

Can anyone remember the accident involving a minibus or even 2 minibuses in June 1986 on a Sunday night near Reading somewhere on the M4. I remember that quite well because i went pass where the accident occurred roughly 15 mins before, I think that claimed about 10 lives .

I think if one person is killed and you know them or are related to them then that is probably a far worse motorway accident for you personally than one in which 7, 9 or 10 people, who you don’t know, die.

I see on Sky news just now ,they reckon it was a bank of black smoke that came across the motorway from the firework display,(presumably the rugby club) that was the likely cause of the accident and police are treating it as a criminal investigation aswell as an RTC.
From what the police chief said ,i think the organisers of the firework display could well be in the [zb].Apparently, a couple of years ago a firework organiser refused to do a gig there because he felt it would be dangerous
I read that to in the paper today.
We can moan all we want about limiters but we have all had them long enough to know they are there and as a few have said here the problem is pig ignorance about not letting someone pass you. Ive been sticking to about 50-52 for the last year do the same amount of work save fuel and feel much more relaxed after a stint on the motorway than fighting the limiter.
At the end of the day we should stop ■■■■■■■■ about this accident and causes and thank our lucky stars it wasn’t any of us and think about the people involved and there families and friends.
with regards to limiters, do you really feel like youre being safer being limited to 56? you cant pull yourself out of a jacknife (unless youre travelling at about 50), and really dpes the stopping distance between travelling at 56 and 70 really make stuff all of a difference when sh-t goes wrong? usually when a truck is in trouble like that, its gonna be bad regardless

You think you can pull yourself out of a jackknife at 50-56? Yr a better driver than I could ever hope to be.

dont know if what i am hearing is correct, but apparently samworth lost 3 drivers, 2 full time and one agency.
I recall the bad smash on the M1 near Luton in March 1972, that was in thick fog and involved 200 vehicles. I think that there were nine deaths, one of our tankers was involved in it but thankfully the driver was ok (physically at least) and another local driver that I know said that he sat there hearing it all crashing around and behind him but could see nothing! I believe that fog warnings were erected on motorways following that.
Pete.
Personally i send my sympathy out to all involved, police have stated 4 dead in1 vehicle, bbc news stating retired couple were killed that only leaves 1 driver unnacounted , as fellow trucker i hope samworths drivers are ok

Absolutely, having jackknifed a truck myself, I can tell Beattun that a truck will jackknife quicker than you can say the word “jackknife”.
