I remember nighting out all week for MAT transport in an old FL10. Now that was cramped.

Ah tramping in a Wendy house lol
2 years at stobarts crick
With your weeks supply of green shirts

Yes i heard this crap many moons ago, i believe it started with a F88 in Germany where a driver was supposedly told by the police that the vehicle was not suitable because there was insufficient room between the steering wheel and the edge of the bunk…should have been so many inches/centimetres…but it gives us something to smile about.

Try tramping in one of those Japanese city vans with a sleeper box with no night heater!

I once had a driver tell me,and I [zb] you not, that I could legally refuse to take the M.A.N I had out because the FRIDGE didnt work! Something about a “legal right for access to chilled liquid in the workplace” or some such ■■■■■■■■. When he started spouting guff about “human rights breach” about having to put warm milk for his cornflakes I almost folded with laughter. And the scary thing is he wasnt joking or at it. He genuinely believed what he was saying

What was it like having Carryfast work with you ?

Lol.
Well he didnt blame thatcher, stalin or the socialist regime so I got off easy!

And i used to go to italy in a fl 10 for mat and a erf and a fh 12 flat top 2 to 3 weeks away for mat

It is actually true. Back in 2003 ish, BTS bought a lot of P Scania’s, only to find out they were illegal under new tramping rule, they had to cancel the order , and upgrade to to R Scania’s . The height rule was the change.

Bloody el :open_mouth: My first night out was an FL6 4 wheeler :unamused: That was cramped! On class one it was a glorious FL10 not quite as cramped but rubbish. I’ve since had Globetrotters xl and xxl and am currently in a MAN - the best to be honest. Plenty of room and storage, the only downside is the bloody automatic gearbox which sometimes has a mind of its own :unamused: Volvo gearbox is far better.

Terry T:
Never heard this one before. I jumped put of my wagon one day last week after having a night out only to be told what I was doing is illegal because I don’t have a high roof cab. Just a Streamspace Actros.

Apparently, under EU law you can only have 1 night out in a truck with a low roof and if you want to sleep out any longer you need a Topline/Gigaspace/GobstopperXXL etc.

Anyone heard this one before ?

Should I go to the nearest DVSA office with some lube ?

Why do sentences starting with “Under EU law” end with people talking nonsense :unamused:

:unamused: night out in a scamell rootman no bunk night heaters no invented ice on inside of window jeeeeeees some of you lot hav it made now days

I met a cracker yesterday afternoon at Unilever Cannock. Old boy telling us how he had fought off diesel thieves single handed.

He then pulled out a couple of packets of tocacco he was selling. £2 a pop. Then he explained how he got them.

Switched seals right under the nose of security at a bonded warehouse, and helped himself to 400 packets.

I liked him a lot, a sort of ’ Yoda ’ of ■■■■■■■■ talking.

Bet he’d sold out though, those were his own personal so had none left for you to buy :stuck_out_tongue:

the way I see it is this,if you are comfortable in your own property ie your own bed and warm house/flat/whatever you own,if your boss expects nights out from you then you should expect the same comfort in your cab with night heaters and so on,he/she is going home every night to their nice comfortable houses so they should make sure you are comfortable in their lorries, night heaters and so on are as far as I am concerned not luxuries they are a necessity, especially with the winters we have been having,i gave up doing nights out a few years ago as I like my own bed at night

OVLOV JAY:

mazzer:
Whether it is law or not (which I doubt) why would you do nights out for a boss who hasn’t given you a suitable lorry, if I am expected to night out then an absence of a night heater and the ability to stand up while getting dressed would mean no nights out.

Has it got a bunk? Yes? It’s suitable then. Night heaters and high roofs are a luxury, not a necessity. What next? It’s not suitable because there’s no socket for my ipod :unamused:

Apparently it’s not what the Germans think, No working night heater, no sleeping in van or truck in winter months they are also known to make random checks on parked vehicles

Night heater is a legal requirement under health and safety legislation

Night heater is a legal requirement under health and safety legislation

Really? Can I see that legislation anywhere? Do please post a link…

Sounds like some ‘law’ hopefully made up on the spot by some glory boy upset about being issued a non-XXXXXXL Super Mega Space Cab with chrome bling, fairy lights and bird ■■■ graphics :unamused:

I got dug out my pit in the middle of the night at scratchwood many moons ago along with a few paddys by plod who informed us that it was illegal to sleep in our cabs because of the distance between the steering wheel and the bunk due to some new fangle law just invented and told us we couldn’t sleep in our cabs…1 pddy argued that he didn’t have a bunk anyway which kinda flummoxed them, and the rest of us just swapped cabs for the night…no contest…,and whats with all the high roof, night heater mince…I did 3 trips to Saudi ,once with no power steering,no aircon, you had to close the windows when it was blowing sand all over you,no heater never mind a night heater, and when it got too stuffy with the windows closed I had to let the seagull I caught on the ferry on the way across out of its cage and let it flap around for a bit to get a breeze going,… :unamused:

You might have to explain where “Scratchwood” is
