Fresh meat in gateshead

after witnessing a meat delivery from a transit van to the store, i was shocked by the lack of hygiene. im no expert on the subject but there were certain points i did notice

  1. no gloves when handling meat
  2. the meat was thrown into milk cages
  3. the milk cages are stored next to the bins
  4. unlikely that milk cages are properly cleaned (ACC in pompey didnt)
  5. the meat was not wrapped in anything

watch what you eat in gateshead :open_mouth:

i didnt catch the suppliers name

Thanks Ritchie I live in Gateshead but dont buy a lot of meat as we dont really eat that much but will bear this in mind

I am more inclined to believe that this is what happens to Dannis unwanted admirers. Momma Ang does for them

Cmon you pusseys, unless you are gonna eat the meat raw, then there is no problem. When meat is cooked it kills all known germs to mankind and we have enough bile and acid in our guts to kill of most flys maggots ect…
Where ever you are in the uk you always see meat wagons deliverying meat to the shops and markets, they are always hanging up in the back not wrapped up
the drivers wear no gloves just a white jumpsuit, well red most of the time and a small hat…so what if they put on a metal trolley would you fancy carrying all that meat into the warehouse? its got to be transported somehow aint it…
This will give you something to think about.
what about your local curry house? do you think about there meat when you are eating there food? where do you think they get it from cos i aint ever seen a delivery of meat to my local curry house, they most probably pick it up in the back off there cars from the local market .
Burger vans i have never seen one that contains a fridge have you??
but you still eat all that crappy grease laden rubbish dont you…
let alone a toilet with hot running water.
rant over …

As a former Gatesheed lad,I would like to know where it is as well.

Ken.

i worked on large outdoor events for many years
some of the things i saw would turn your stomach
they included a very large pan of food that i had to move for the environmental health hit squad that was bubbling even though there was condensation on the outside
also once when fencing in the back of catering and bar units was told to put in an access gate for the storage truck supplying most of the units on site was very disturbed some hours later when patrolling the fence lines to see a curtain side 17t with bloody fluids leaking out of it . this was in the height of summer .
and the wife wonders why i wont eat out when we go anywhere and always took sarnies when i worked

it was delivered to iceland from a supplier. i have no idea where else this guy supplies to though. it is delivered via the service yard at the back of the wilkinsons building just south of the river

A butcher friend once told me that you can take a piece of meat, kick it down the road, ā– ā– ā– ā–  on it, do what you like with it but as long as it is cooked properly you will not have any problems.
I have not long come back from Tunisia and visited many areas outside the tourist resorts. Out there meat is killed and butchered on the side of the road and then hung up outside and do you know what-it tasted lovely!

I’ve heard of a heifer being shot in a field ( It had a broken leg), hung from a tractor and loader , skinned & gutted then left in a barn for a couple of days and cut up for the deep freeze.
I believe it tasted much better than any of the beef sold in supermarkets

bit of dirt never hurt anyone  sometimes living in too hygienic a world doesn’t give you enough natural immunity against bugs

Just Scanny over reacting again, Dennis … he has obviously never been to Smithfields. You won’t see a wrapped bit of meat in the place

I spend quite a lot of time in abattoirs

probably getting to the ā€œtoo much informationā€ stage now

one thing ive noticed of late is how many places say whats your temp driver , you tell them and its good enough , mostly back street small places but it does make you wonder why they dont check it .it could be set at anything or not even switched on for all some seem to care

Maybe cos they assume we are professional drivers and if we say it is at +3, then it is. Madness on their behalf but but not our problem

If it was to Icelands then its going to be either Ready Packed or Frozen as Gatesheads Iceland does not have a Butchers Department Like Asda or Morrisons. You could be leaving yoursell open to Slander there Scanny if the Manager read what you put

About 8 year ago I was delivering some wines & spirits to a posh restraunt in london, the goods had to go in the rear & down a flight of stairs & no word of a lie ther were dead cockroaches as big as your hand everywhere. The chef was indian & his arms were covered in spices of every colour & god knows what else all the way up to his upper arms (way past his elbows) he would wipe his runny nose on his for arm sing the paperwork & go baxk & put his hands straight in to a pot of food. Several times he offered me something to eat & i would pollitley refuse & leave feeling sick.
I have seen a lot of sick thing s delivering to some top restraunts in london & the south east.
