About 8 year ago I was delivering some wines & spirits to a posh restraunt in london, the goods had to go in the rear & down a flight of stairs & no word of a lie ther were dead cockroaches as big as your hand everywhere. The chef was indian & his arms were covered in spices of every colour & god knows what else all the way up to his upper arms (way past his elbows) he would wipe his runny nose on his for arm sing the paperwork & go baxk & put his hands straight in to a pot of food. Several times he offered me something to eat & i would pollitley refuse & leave feeling sick.
I have seen a lot of sick thing s delivering to some top restraunts in london & the south east.
My old man used to deliver to restaurants etc … that was his excuse for never taking me muvver out for dinner lol
scanny77:
it was delivered to iceland from a supplier. i have no idea where else this guy supplies to though. it is delivered via the service yard at the back of the wilkinsons building just south of the river
If it was to Icelands then its going to be either Ready Packed or Frozen as Gatesheads Iceland does not have a Butchers Department Like Asda or Morrisons. You could be leaving yoursell open to Slander there Scanny if the Manager read what you put
that is only one retailer though Davey. how many others are putting up with the same level and putting it on the shelves for general consumption. im glad i dont eat joints of meat if this is how it is handled

But Richie your out of Order as you specifically stated Icelands
Icelands in Gateshead does not sell Fresh Meat unless it is ready packed, you did however say Behind Wilkinsons so that brings me to think it was actually a delivery to the Fawcetts Butchers Shop at the bottom of the Ramp BELOW Wilkinsons.
All in All, Carcasses are delivered to butchers unwrapped because the Meat would sweat if wrapped in plastic etc, Now unless your going to eat raw meat I can’t see what your problem is, when Ahhh was a Lad we use to pull turnips from the field and eat them after rubbing the thick of the muck off em, Wood nuts picked of trees were put straight in ya gob, sweetcorn had the green leaves removed and eaten raw.
The problem nowadays is all these Hygiene regs that are not giving the human body the chance to take in bacteria for the body to make itself immune.

i specified them because that is where i was. i didnt follow the guy around so i have no idea who else he delivers to. i dont know who else uses that bay either so it may be wilkinsons or someone else. the emphasis is on the supplier, not the retailer (although they should at least show concern too
point 2. having delivered milk, i know how the cages are kept and what they go through during the course of the day
point 3. i dont know anything about cooking so i dont know how this meat could be used but common sense dictates that there should be a basic level of hygiene when handling the raw meat

Well said that man We no longer have a natural immunity
There’s too much sell by, display by, use by bull.
When I was a lad We didn’t have a fridge, only a walk in “larder” My mum used to tell if something was “off” by smelling it… sausages, bacon, meat. The only thing she cooked on the day of purchase was chicken.
I can’t remember having a day of school with a dicky tummy (unless I wanted one )
Whilst agreeing with most of the previous posts regarding meat hygeine, it is worth noting that not all harmfull organisms in meat can be killed off by cooking.
I know of at least one that is thought to survive normal cooking temperatures
My point was not about Health Hygiene etc being ignored but the fact a Major Chainstore “Iceland” was named as receiving meat from an unhygienic supplier.
As I stated, Iceland do not have a fresh meat counter where carcases etc are cut into smaller joints, in fact I’m not aware of Iceland having butchery depts in any shop (But may be wrong)
Scanny posted criticising the supplier probably rightly so, but what if customers suddenly started boycotting Iceland’s because of Scanny’s comment? (Yeah I know its an exageration)
As a native of Gateshead I know there is a Butchers Shop in the same area and there is a 99% probability that the eat was destined there, how does Scanny know that the meat is not washed / cleaned etc in the Butchers once delivered?
Another point to remember is, any meat delivered from an abbatoir etc is sold with a certificate.
It’s impossible to ensure 100% hygiene with any food product which is why the body needs its own defences, but without traces of bugs etc in food stuffs the bodies immune system gets nothing to build up against.
Another point to remember scanny is carcases are usually covered in Body Fat which is cut away and discarded
Just tried this experiment at home regarding meat.
get a peice of raw pork and pour over a tin of coco cola.
and wait for a while and you will see all the tiny maggot looking crawlies come to the top of the surface…yuk man…
Whilst not knocking Scannys post, you will find that most meat sold will be handled like that. I too was brought up with bluebottles the size of sparrows and a meat safe in my nannas pantry. It made us immune to a bit of a tummy bug.
I lived iin West Africa and we went to the local markets and bought rabbits, beef and even pork which had flies all over it. As soon as you put it near the pan the flies had gone.
I work in the food industry too and to be honest if you are at all squeamish about food poisoning then processed food is not for you.
Im a country lad who would help the local farmers milk cows or kill them at slaughter. most of the lads took meat home from the knacker

Use White Vinegar it makes em leap Lol
In fact it makes a nice party trick ideal before putting on the Bar B Q
on another note…how does scanny know that the meat wasnt destined for a DOG MEAT FOOD supplier?
perhaps also in the same area he was sitting watching this deed.

we have a job where we cant get anywhere near a butchers shop in a town centre so they come out in a old ■■■■■■ van and meet us in a layby and we hanball it off pallet and into back of van
theres no fridge or nothing in van , but it always makes me laugh when they ask what our fridge is set on
its a horrid job the blood of the meat gets everywhere , your hands are caked in it and no way of washing it off until the next drop where they have a sink you can use.
having worked on reefers for a while i could tell you tales i once went to a well known poultry company near penrith to load chicken for the north east they proceeded to brin out these plastic boxes with frozen chicken in they tipped the chicken out in a nice square block straight onto an uncovered pallet wrapped it in shrink wrap and put it on the wagon…lovely i thought.
i have also been to several kebab makers in my time and needless to say i havent had so much as a sniff of an elephants leg since.
