had mine a year I cant chuffin wait
I think the initial DCPC is a good thing for the new drivers, I don’t agree with the 35 hours of ■■■■■■■■that you have to do every 5 years, there comes a point when it would get quite patronising, especially when 90% of the trainers haven’t driven a truck.

Agree up to a point.
I actually learnt something today.
The instructor was a qualified first aider/blood donor all round nice bloke and he used to drive for Wincanton when all they had was milk tankers.
Will the trainers go to Trainer Heaven after September , what is the noun for a group of trainers â– â–
Know it all’s

I wish !
Had mine since June 2010 & I don’t get any more than the rest of our drivers.
Lots of people seem to think that from September this year there’s going to be a shortage of ‘Qualified’ HGV Drivers & our money will go up accordingly !
I’m not gonna hold my breath.
The bus game has had the DCPC since last September and I have seen no change in the pay packet. Some of the semi-retired folk have become fully retired .This has not caused a driver shortage in real terms. Will any one really check up on the immigrants with dodgy qualifications?
Very strange how so many think they are so good they do not need to do DCPC. When I did mine I noticed it was the ones that moaned it was a waste of time were the ones that knew very little.
If you need to be convinced some drivers definitely need it just look at this thread.
The OP blames someone else when in fact he is totally in the wrong then we find quite a few do not know the rules about double white lines.
That is just basic rules and they do not have a clue so it is no wonder it has all come about.Oh and 90% of trainers do not have a vocational licence…more absolute bollox.
Did my DCPC in 2012 in one shot.
Got to renew ADR & HIAB in 2017 so that should count to renewal.
It definitely taught me a good few things on what has changed since getting my HGV2 licence in 1995.
And a lot has happened in driving in the last 19 years etc & more will come along in the next 5!!

I agree up to a point, but the thing is that I don’t believe the DCPC will change anything. If it was proper, rigorous training with a set curriculum and a requirement to pass an exam at the end, it’d be well worthwhile and long overdue, but as it stands, it’s a complete waste of time. I’ve done two sessions with our in house training provider … both identical. Same videos, same handouts, even the same anecdotes about the trainer’s driving career at the same points in the presentation. Where’s the value in that? How does it make me a better driver?
Next time I need this ridiculous qualification, I’ll be finding a first aid course or something similar. That’s the only value I can see in the DCPC at the moment: at least it might provide the impetus for people to get off their arses and actually do some useful training, on the grounds that if they have to have 35 hours of training every five years, it might as well be proper training.
had mine about 12 months with my certificate too actually forgot about it until i tried to get into felixstowe dock with it instead of my rhides cards
I agree with you Rythm Thief but I also think it is pathetic when drivers do not know basic rules.
Even worse that they believe they are right when in fact they are totally wrong.
The DCPC definitely could be so much better and I agree it is a farce at the moment.
It needs to be restructured and have a pass or fail at the end.
That way we might get some of the morons off our roads which would be a really good thing.
I think that is the way it will eventually go.Fingers crossed eh!
It will never be pass/fail mainly because the industry couldn’t afford the fallout of thousands of drivers having to stop work. As you’ve said Albion, it’s shocking how little some drivers know of the basic rules, that will never change with the DCPC.
