Freckin chuffed

Will the trainers go to Trainer Heaven after September , what is the noun for a group of trainers ■■

■■■■■?

That, for the auto censor, starts with a c and ends with a ts?

Done the final part and up to speed of the driver cpc today. That makes me a proper driver then.Roll on 2015 and i can do it all again :stuck_out_tongue:

2019

10- 09- 14 actually :grimacing: 7 hrs this year times by five years equals 35 hours again! :sunglasses: and get a new shiny card til 2024! :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

Have to renew my licence in 2 years time.
Seriously considering not bothering.

NewLad:
I think the initial DCPC is a good thing for the new drivers, I don’t agree with the 35 hours of ■■■■■■■■ that you have to do every 5 years, there comes a point when it would get quite patronising, especially when 90% of the trainers haven’t driven a truck.

Unfortunately Trucknet is awash with posts from drivers who’ve been doing the job for decades that shows that periodic training is required.

Whereas periodic sitting in a room watching videos is no help at all. Honestly, if time spent on Trucknet could be ratified by JAUPT, it’d be more useful than some of the DCPC courses out there.
No one is denying that periodic training is required - my own personal bugbear is the fact that for years new legislation was introduced and we were somehow just expected to know about it - but the problem is that the DCPC in its current form won’t change anything. I’ll be doing my last session on Saturday, and it’ll be exactly the same as the first one I did: there will be a video showing how to be a banksman (aimed at the construction industry), a video showing a guy being squashed by a load of steel coming through the back of his cab, anecdotes about the trainer’s days behind the wheel, instructions to use POA and a video about manual handling. How is that useful? The first time, maybe, but again and again? And there’s no requirement to show I’ve taken any of it on board: I could be asleep (in fact, I and the other night driver probably will be asleep, because we’ll be doing it straight after a shift on Friday night), drunk or simply there as someone who doesn’t understand English and it’d still count as training. The whole thing is no more than a box ticking exercise and is of no value whatever. It coould have been so much more useful but as it is it’s just a wasted opportunity.

A DCPC course I attended used these ‘quizzes’ as an ice-breaker. Very few professional drivers got 20 correct!! I know it doesn’t make them bad drivers but as I see it we can all learn something.

There’s two tests - have a go, see how you get on. A bit of fun with a serious aspect.

You can download/print off or even order free copies - in the name of road safety. There’s answer sheets too on website.

Hope the links work!!!

Good luck everyone!!!

Top link doesn’t work…bottom one does. Go to their website & then ‘leaflets’ if you want to try 1st test.

Yep, everyone must be up to speed on Highway Code & gaining full marks■■?

Did my five days this week, never again ! Out to grass in three years !!!

Full marks on both.

Rhythm Thief:
I agree up to a point, but the thing is that I don’t believe the DCPC will change anything. If it was proper, rigorous training with a set curriculum and a requirement to pass an exam at the end, it’d be well worthwhile and long overdue, but as it stands, it’s a complete waste of time. I’ve done two sessions with our in house training provider … both identical. Same videos, same handouts, even the same anecdotes about the trainer’s driving career at the same points in the presentation. Where’s the value in that? How does it make me a better driver?
Next time I need this ridiculous qualification, I’ll be finding a first aid course or something similar.

I still do not agree with it as far as long term drivers having to sit through simple basics that they already learned years ago (despite Conors standard post :unamused: , after he has accused everybody on here, including me  , of being ignorant of the job )
A qualifying point of say 5yrs experience would be a more realistic system, but that would not fit the REAL agenda of raising revenue, so it won’t happen.

As for changing it to a course & exam system (where you would need to be at the least reasonably educated, to a standard above that of being able to find your own arse with both hands) well we all witness daily the driving standards that give an indication of some truck drivers intelligence quota :unamused: , so at least it would probably solve the lack of vacancies in the industry, and stop the low wage peanut and monkey situation :bulb: .

Well folks all done now completed my last 7 hours for now today. Today’s was about attitude he picked the wrong subject as seen as my boss is as short as they come and him and his brother don’t speak it made for an uncomfortable morning with me just sat at the back like a naughty school kid sniggering at the sly digs towards eachother .
To say its been a complete waste of 35 hours from my life would be a lie, to be fair I’ve learnt a few things and learned a few things I should have known already. I do believe though that what I have learned could have fitted into a half day session and the other 30 hours could have been a little more constructive or served more of a purpose then sitting at the back of a portacabin watching a power point presentation. The first aid course was well worth doing and I was more than happy spending 7 hours learning the basics but on a whole I don’t believe it’s made a great difference to my ability behind the wheel.
I’m all for learning but would rather sit and have a yarn with a more experienced driver it’s how I’ve learned up till now.
I’m looking forward to my imminent pay rise now that I’m a proper driver he can’t say I’m still an apprentice any more now my cards In the post .
