Fowler Welch Coolchain

Hola.

The above mentioned company are ladvertising for drivers in my area of the North East.

I am thinking of applying, they are looking for drivers for locals (my kinda thing.) They are also looking for trunkers and the like.

They wouldnt tell me their pay rates though, so I was wondering if any fellow members had any opinions on what they are like to work for and how much they pay.

I currently earn 7.16ph normal rate and 10.08 O/T.

I’d be grateful for any personal opinions.

Thanks all.

Andy.

I am sure he worked for them for quite a while

I currently earn 7.16ph

Please don’t take this the wrong way as no offence is intended but it just shows how were valued as people who operate 44t vehicles worth £■■? and cargo worth £■■? working up to 15hr days when… In my local weekly paper Aldi are looking for storepersons to stack shelves, 40hrs per week to suit

£8.40 per hr

You give you’re location as Rugby Shade, Matchbox gives his as Durham.
That North / South divide doesn’t just mean North of London. The further North you go, the lower the average wage. That’s not a hard and fast rule obviously, but you’ll probably find that £7.16 isn’t a bad rate around Durham. I doubt it’s a great rate either, but it’ll be ok.

Fowler Welch pay rates have been discussed here often enough, its in the region of £6.30 per hour. You get OT when you go over 10 hours on a shift. I’m pretty certain thats correct, a quick hit of the search button on this forum should confirm it. Or Davey will be here first !!

Good advice Mike.

Thanx, looking at one of Dave’s posts in late 2006, they are on £6.27.

I think I will be staying where I am!

Simon, your right in what you say about regional pay differences , I agree.
I was really highlighting (not very successfully) the job desciption i.e shelf stacker versus class one proffessional hgv driver , with the respective responsibilties that go with the wage.Just don’t add up to me :frowning:

I’m no longer with Fowler’s I finished in November last year and went onto the Agency (NAS in Bowburn)

Nas are now putting Agency Drivers into Fowlers at Washington but I’ unsure of the rate they pay on that Contract.

Fowlers have upped the wage when they gave a whopping pay rise taking the hourly rate to around £6.90 - £7.00 ph as far as I can gather, probably why Chris Kilsby or John Benton have not answered your question here as they do visit this site regularly

Fowlers are okay if you dont mind being messed about, as there is lots of sitting around waiting for trucks coming in.

I think the Local work is on the Tesco contract taking the double deck trailers either to Doncaster to load or to Livingstone for tipping (both are trailer swaps)

Hope this helps

hi im a current driver at fowler’s and to think they are getting any better to work for is a massive joke. take my advice drivers, stay away. u get sacked now for small things Allegations removed - We cant allow allegations such as that without us recieving proof of the events- sorry- Rikki. yes the two drivers who did get sacked recently did deserve it but no where near as bad as the bosses son’s. i am gonna post this subject to the evening chronicle and stress how much i think should be disaplined as fair as i would be if i made such choices in my workplace. bottom line one rule for one and another for others.

well said that man

i spoke to a driver at tesco chepstow about 3 months ago he was on 6.43 a hour dont know about o/t though . thie made eddie 7.20 look good but i do agree with earlier posts we are profesinal drivers getting paid peanuts

£6 an hour is surely a good wage for an unskilled labourer like a truck driver isnt it?.

   It wouldn’t last 5 mins on their website if you named the company, and nobody would be bothered if you didn’t name the company so stand facing the wind and start peeing

the allegations are gone from here too unless you can provide me with proof that they happened- sorry - Rikki

well maybe i am waisting my time, but it wont be long b4 the company is shut down in my eyes. the only thing keepin them goin is the tesco’s contract witch i dont reckon will last. ‘‘Jim you are better off just leavin as i can tell you that not many ppl like you there pal. your now goin on days and i dont think u will last 5 mins. as ppl have you down as two faced and full of ■■■■’’

cant really see a company ‘shutting down’ when its probably one of the only companies in this time of recession that is actually expanding.

If your referring to the Jim that I think you are, then your very wrong matey

Jim has been and gone on a number of occassions but always returns as it’s a cushy job and not back breaking, he’s left twice that I know of.

Fowlers have always had a reputation but, I only comment on mine, and Chris Kilsby has left now so I dont know what the new guy is like.

One thing for certain though, if you have a complaint then simply post it recorded delivery to Spalding and let them deal with it, if they aren’t prepared to do anything then visit the Job Centre at Washington.

Fowlers are part of a big group (Dart) that also own Jet2.com so they will last a lot longer than you think

do you work out of washington daveydriver? I see on the roadtransport.com write up about Fowlers expanding that there getting a load of new business in there so seems your doing pretty well mate.

Never worked for Fowlers for over 2 years now but still talk to a few ex Colleagues from there, now and again.

I left the week before they moved into the new depot at Washington
