Foreigners nicking all the jobs (UK)

Got talking about it with a mate of mine last night - he’d been working at a place and was instructed to load somewhere. There was also a Polish agency lad in who was loading at the same place so the office told him to follow my mate. Thing was, my mate didn’t wait for him and [zb] off on his own with the argument that it was tough [zb] as they should know their way about and be able to find places for themselves, adding that it was these [zb] that are nicking all our jobs so why should he help them and if they ever come up to him asking for directions he sends them in the opposite direction.

Hands up, who’s guilty and feels the same?

Alex there’s no need for you to answer that one cos I already know.

Totally agree Rob, if i wanted to be a babysitter i’d be one and get a live in job with a car and everything!!

When I did containers the agency took my job off me & gave it to a Greek lad, becausec he didn`t speak English. They gave me multi-drop tilt work which I dumped after a few hours because the truck had the clap. :unamused:

Well I wouldn’t do that and I can’t imagine anyone doing it to a British driver when asking directions abroad. I think there are only certain parts of the UK where people would do that, people in most parts of the UK would be helpful if possible I would say.

Doesn’t anyone ever remember following another driver when they were first finding their feet? I didn’t agree with economic migration any more than anyone else, but there’s no excuse for discourtesy. In Harry’s case I can see his point. If they pull a stunt like that then they deserve no help, but there’s a limit to it.
Just sending them off in the wrong direction is unkind. I had it happen to me in Belgium, and I was ready to commit murder because of it.

Thats the difference between European and UK only drivers, Bob. Euro drivers will always help cos they know that if we need help abroad, we get it.

To send another driver wrong direction is an utter disgrace, Ireland is full of polish drivers and just a couple of weeks ago one of them, driving for nolan, stopped me for directions, he had no english so I took him to his drop, about six miles out of my way, but I know what its like been lost around the back end of france and belgium, you call yourself professional drivers and knockpeople who bend the law, maybe somtimes I’m lucky I dont drive for a UK co. with that attitude so prevelant.

sorry rob k i dont agree, as df1 says a disgrace, it could be you one day, and if all the english dole dossers got of there arses and stop living of hand outs there wouldnt be any jobs available to be nicked from immigrants would there, sometimes im ashamed to be english

In fairness, I think that only a tiny proportion of English drivers would actually do this, or find it amusing. I think it’s got more to do with being “Yorkshire” myself.

This reminds me off when I couldn’t find a packhouse down at Nulles late one night. I went into a cafe/bar and asked where it was. After lots of ‘Spanish’ discussion, one of the guys in there told me to follow him, he staggered out the bar, bottle in hand, got in his car and took me the 2 miles to where I needed to be. Thank God, he didn’t have Rob’s mates attitude.

Yes, in Italy I have had the Carabinieri ■■■■■■ me under blue lights to where I needed to be, in Holland I asked a guy working in a petrol station for directions and he actually closed the place and put a sign on the door saying “back in 10 minutes” so he could show me where to go in his car (and he then refused anything for petrol), and I could rattle off dozens of similar stories.

I’m just glad my work keeps mostly me on the Continent where these “foreigners” come from, rather than taking me to where Rob and his new buddy come from…

I was lost in italy once (ok a lot more than once  )… I pulled into this tight little village and asked a passing local where the place was… He took me on the back of his moped!! to the address id been given.. a house on a very small street. No good- so he then took me to the village church where the Holy Man/Priest/Father let me use his phone to ring the agent in milan., Who told me id been given the wrong address!
And this isnt the first time i`ve had friendly help above and beyond the expected amount… Italy/ germany/france/swiss… etc etc etc…
I dont like the way the job is going BUT its not the drivers fault… from wherever they come- if i can help them i ALWAYS will

you’d expect all drivers to be able to get somewhere near the drop in any country no matter where they came from

its the nuts and bolts that everyone needs a hand with

vis a vis the regular Argos driver when i suggested he had the cream run said that it was because it wasnt down the M1 to Letchworth. my job

He still had to get the store map because it was one of the few he hadnt done.

the first bit of advice we give on here is if you aint sure ask.

So your mates a nob head

I’m not that keen on religion but I wouldn’t automatically think of you as a ‘nob’ just because of your username!! :unamused: :unamused:

The ‘Yorkshire’ stereotyping comment you made was totally irrelevant to the original post.

FYI, I agree it was the wrong thing to do and hope that ‘the’ person in question is stuck someday and gets the same treatment. That’s played-up with your ‘Yorkshire’ theory then, hasn’t it■■?

I totally agree, you are nearly always treated better in euro. than you are in the uk.I like the others have been taken to destinations i could not find by truck drivers in france and portugal taxi drivers in poland and civilians in cars in germany.Help like this is not as easy to find im sorry to say in the uk, can you wonder with drivers like rob and his mates…

Bob. oh Bob, what are you saying  :open_mouth: I’m sure you’d like to re-phrase that

Dead right Austin, and no Rob, I would never (have never) mess(ed) up another driver like that. Not surprised you would though.

BTW Martin, far be it for me to defend superstition, but I think the holy cyclist was rather clumsily haveing a go at one Yorkie in particular. And with good reason

Reading some of these posts makes me feel glad to live in a different county to RobK :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Im actually ashamed to say im english, when im asked what nationallity i am :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

If i could be bothered, I would search back through where Rob posted about the day he found a Polish truck stranded in Leeds and got in his car and took the guy to the drop!!!
