Suffolk ReeferBoy:
Sorry if I caused offence, none was meant as Deesider correctly stated.
It was made in reply to a statement made by someone stating that should we berate all Women drivers if one has an accident to which I replied I think the women drivers I have seen are better then the poor standard of eastern blocers I have wittnessed, maybe could have been written alittle more P.C. I suppose but I am not that way inclined
The Progress we have made was in reference to what I believed is the acceptance that women are equal in our position as HGV drivers but it seems that we still have a lot of work to do. and people hiding behind the PC bit is just a modern phrase of convenience. Iām sorry but you maintaining that women are better than the poor standard of eastern blockers I have witnessed is still IMHO a poor attitude and no I donāt take it as a compliment but is seems that we must agree to disagree just try to remember that the qualifications and the job in practice IS equal and we are matching you step for step.
dont really know where this big thing of women being accepted is coming from I have never said anything that really should give that view.
Women have been driving trucks for years and as I have ALREADY said I know no male drivers who have a problem with this , A women truck driver is no big thing these days, maybe in the 50s it was seen as unusual but nowadays it is not I even recall we once had a women Prime Minister even though she was king pony and trap.
Please note the last statement was not ment in anyway to offend any member of either ā ā ā .
It was not ment as a compliment
IT WAS IN REFERENCE TO SOMEBODY SAYING SHOULD WE BERATE WOMEN DRIVERS SO PLEASE ACCEPT MY HUMBELEST APOLOGISES ONCE AGAIN .
jessicas dad:
come on your not sorry you are just trying to open a new can of worms⦠polish women driversā¦
anyway i definatley wouldnt want my daughter driving a lorry sorry if it causes offence but thats my opinion and im sticking to it.
i also wouldnt want my son ( if i had one ) driving a lorry either i know some of you will disagree but tough thats my opinion as well
Come on Jessicas dad that sort of attitude is really bad and I feel ashamed for even reading it I once even saw a women pilot so a women driving a truck is no big deal anymore.
Anyway in reference to one of your later posts on this subject I to am keen to help polish drivers and am always very eager to give directions although sadly I always lose something in translation and they do tend to end up in the Kings Lynn/North Cambs area in general which thinking about it could explain the Jack Richards problem.
Sorry, but I wouldnāt want my daughter driving a truck, eitherā¦not because sheās a girl, but because the industry has such a complete lack of respect for itās workers.

Arenāt you supose to be having a whale of a time with our american buds rather than policing our petty squabbles?

I would have no problem with either of my daughters wanting to drive trucks.
I would, however, not want them to do so as a job.
I have to admit that it would not bother me if my Daughter turned round and told me she wanted to drive trucks. In fact I would pay for her licence, even if she had no intention of using it. But in 19yrs time no doubt things will have changed so she might not be able to become a driver at all.

Same here smcaul, and if she wished to do it for a living thatās her call, I will support her in whatever she chooses.

well done lucy thats my point i was trying to get across i wouldnt want my daughter or son ( if i had one ) doing a job where you had to work 60+ hrs a week just to get alivable wage i dont want my kids in ajob that they have to got to bed at 7-8 at night cos they have to get up 1-23 in the morning i dont want my kids struggling loading trailers at the freezing rain sleet and snow driving through thick fog and high winds there are those on here that have cushy jobs but those are few and far between i want my kids to have a job with decent hours and a decent enough wage.
the women class 1drivers I have seen are head and shoulders above the poor quality eastern blocers I have had the misfortune to see.
But then again, some women drivers stand head and shoulders above some of the sub standard British drivers too
Women have been driving trucks for years and as I have ALREADY said I know no male drivers who have a problem with this ,
I wish I knew no male drivers who have a problem with this
Women have been driving trucks for along time in my area and I have yet to see any discrimination shown to them
Come take a look through my eyes, youāll see plenty of it.
And before anybody starts dancing, Iām not saying that SRB is telling porkies, Iām saying discrimination does exist, even if he canāt/doesnāt see any. But Iāve been driving an artic for sooooo long now, that I really dont care anymore. If you dont like the fact I can do this job as well as the next man, then thats your problem not mine
There is a difference between discrimination, and being condescending, and I see as much of the latter from fellow (male)drivers as I do the former.

Bugger giving those jobs to my daughter, if those jobs are out there then Iāll have that job myself
And if either of my daughters want to drive trucks for a living, or my son for that matter, I will give them all the support I never got.
What makes them happy, makes me happy.

This is only my opinion, for what its worth,
Kate, Iām sure you do still see some discrimination, and probably always will, the nature of the beast Iām afraid, but I wish to go on record again and say good on yer Girl and sod the lot of them, as you say ātheir problemā not yours.
And the reason I dont care? because Iām good and I know it.
At one time I used to get mad if another driver offered to reverse my truck for me, before Iād even tried, but nowadays, I just say āIf your ego is in need of a massage, Be my guestā

the amount of money I have spent on my daughters education I think if they say they wanna drive a roxy truck like their dad I will probley flip to be honest too be honest I also think they aint that daft.
no offence meant to other drivers male or female.
Before this thread gets ālockedā ( AGAIN,) does any-one have anything useful to say regarding my original post ?
Just to remind you, it was about a person from a neighbouring E.U. country who was in charge of a P.C.V. and had a major bump.
Cheers,
Niall.
It happens, to āerrā is human and not racially dependant. If we are waying that the accident happened because the Driver could not speak English then I would ask what of the Coach Drivers last year in Germany and Turkey that had fatal accidents could they speak fluent or even broken German or Turkish?
froggy:
Parked up at dunkerque docks sat night thought I was in warsaw there were that many poles parked up,it not just the fact that the poles are working in the UK they are taking out from the UK loads at prices that most firms can not compete with. This was the same all the way down to the spanish border when parked up the places where full of not just polish trucks and drivers but duch and german trucks being drivern by polish guys, wait till they start under cutting the spanish and porto`s then some real sparks will fly.
My dad has been saying the same thing for years, it just keeps getting worse and worse. Heās being on the Calais ferry before when 90% of the trucks have been Polish alone, thats before we take the other Eastern Europeans into account.
My view is that the expansion of the EU eastwards, and in particular with Poland is that its the worst thing that ever happened and will happen for Western European haulage. The Polish transport industry is expanding like a wild fire, a fire thats eating up not work made by the Polish economy, but work taking by undercutting Portugese loads to Denmark, Greek loads to Holland and British loads to Italy. To let a country with a population of 40 million, with a collasal unemployment rate, a country that has workers who work for an amount of money that would see people bankrupt within a week in this country, to simply let an ecomeny like that lose and free to do as it wishes, its a downright disaster. Its a disaster we now have to deal with because its we who are losing our continental jobs, its we who now have our domestic UK jobs at constant risk because its now perfectly legal to have 10 Poles doing the job of 10 British drivers.
It says it all when you speak to Slovenian drivers who talk of how bad things are in their country for international hauliers because of Polish competition taking a large share of their import and export loads, at the expense of them. The same could be said of every single other Western European nation barring perhaps Switzerland who havent as yet sold their people down the river.
Many of the drivers who transport my children to school cannot even understand āhalf fare return to town centre pleaseā. let alone say it.
Now i may not agree with this, but my only alternative is to give up my job and take them myself, which i wouldnāt be able to do, cos if i dont work, I cant afford to run a car.
Swings and roundabouts.
Having been the āforeign driverā, who didnt speak the mother tongue of many a country i travelled in, I think iād better stay on the fence
What we are talking of here are two distinct issues:
Driving in a country in which you are not conversant, does that make you dangerous or just more of a risk?
The economists within Transport and Logistics forcing the issue of employing the cheapest labour around to increase turnover and profitability whether that labour source is competent or legal or NOT! The bottom line is not a Race issue, its a money issue and a People issue, its about the Government of the day protecting its own people and their interests above all other, first.
