It never will be for one very good reason, it’s Lucy’s favourite word.
I think it is something to do with the size of the one she drags around behind her.
Right of to get the tin’at and take cover.

Not wishing to stick my Iron Ore  in, but how many of you have been to the continent without being able to speak the basic language? Is that what this thread’s really about?
Think you might need more then a Tin Hat to cover you after that comment.

Quite right. I like the word “arse”. It’s an excellent word. It would also make a mess of a lot of threads if it were added to the censor, as in order to cover mine it would have to be replaced with [zb] .
No tin 'at needed, Neil. I’ll just come 'round and sit on you instead.

But it really isnt about just visiting drivers, It’s about drivers who are working here ifull time, and this is their main place of work. If I were to work in another country then I would expect to know a reasonable amount of that language. If I am visiting the country then I only need to know the basics, Hello, Goodbye, Please & Thankyou (for the rest i just shout louder
)

Let me take a moment to think about that…

Most of us. I mean there are not many language teachers driving trucks.
I learnt my first sensible German from a Greek bird in Augsburg

Interesting, enlighten .
I belive that you would be surprised at the amount of people who can
talk adequately in one or more foreign languages, the fable that the english
are too lazy to learn another language is and was false i have meet quite
a few who were that good they spoke more than two languages , yes we are not so good as the dutch but we are no longer known as the worst
country.

Im sure thats what that Greek bird said as well
My answer to learning languages is to learn them from another foreigner, then we both speak slower, and dont laugh at our pronunciation

You’re behind, mate…it’s grown to quads now…
Enough of this, before I have to give myself a warning for dragging the thread “off-topic”…

I thought the whole thing about learning languages off foriegners was to have another beer and laugh, at our prononciation .

There are millions of people who live there lives and cause wars because of a Polish bloke who doesnt speak English.Mind you since his throat operation he doesnt speak anything
nice one.
What with all this fuss over Polish Drivers not speaking a word of English■■?
Please do take the time to state where it says that you must have a good knowledge of the language for the country your driving in.
I’ve driven through France, Holland, Germany and dont know much of the language apart from Very Basic and I really mean the very basic
It’s strange how we can be allowed to drive on the continent with no knowledge of their lingo, but as soon as they come across here it’s all wrong and shouldn’t be allowed.
The day the EU introduce a regulation insisting that you must be able to talk the tongue of the country your working in will cause an uproar, could you imaging how many Scot’s would be stuck at the border Lol
Not to mention the amount of Cockney’s stuck at Carlisle because no-one can understand em with their lingo.
I think it all boils down to racism, Polish lads are coming here and as ussual the brits dont like it, now put our demands that they speak english etc into their conditions for driving abroad and you’ll sharp see the brits saying it’s unfair.
Come on using the old RACISM card to try and kill a debate stone dead is really king lame
Its about drivers getting a ten bob rubber stamp licence in a eastern bloc country and filling jobs that are no longer even advertised to British drivers, if these “drivers” I have seen were drivers in whatever eastern bloc country they have appeared from I wouldnt care but I would say 90% of them have no expierence of driving anything bigger then a car, as for speaking english I think it helps just a tiny bit, as does understanding weight limit signs, no entry signs , speed limit signs etc etc etc. they are employed because they are CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCHHHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAPPPPPP,
Me RACIST no dont think so davey old chap, married a Lady from France so half my family are non English.
While tipping in Bellshill last week spoke to a Dutch boy , they are having same problems he was stating he earns 3000 euros a month and the east europeans are working for 1800 euros and has been told his company will probley not employ any other drivers but eastern bloc cheap labour, he mentioned the British drivers he has working at his company and says he has no problems with them as they also are earning 3000 euros.
I think it is only fair to ensure that jobs are first advertised for British drivers before jumping on the “pay peanuts get monkeys” band wagon. I have said before there must be quite afew decent class 2 drivers who would jump at the chance of getting trained up to class 1 and would be a better long term bet then a inexperience eastern blocer, but as the latter is far CHEAPER the money men will go for that option.
Davey Driver from Gateshead 07:12:04 PM 15 March 2005
It’s a sad fact John Kelly but the British Transport Industry is now becoming one of the hardest industries to recruit Drivers, Wages in the N.E average £5 to £6 ph after the Driver has Spent in excess of £2k gaining his licence. Driver’s were once Knights of the Road, almost impossible Delivery Times are set along with Lower Speed Restrictions which put drivers under obscene pressures. Consider being away from Home for 5 days for a pathetic £300 Gross pw and you will sharp understand why Polish Drivers who only get paid half of that in their own country, come here to fill the Vacancies. Overnight Parking for Trucks averages £12 per night, there are very few council owned truck parks now, Distribution Centres want the goods but not the trucks, and give more grief to drivers than they deserve along with the car drivers giving abuse for holding them up due to lower speed limits for trucks, I say let the polish guys have the Jobs, I’m pleased I got out of Driving full time 4 years ago.

So your glad your out of driving so you dont care if those of us who are left and have families to support are being replaced by poles
