the question shouldnt be about speaking english but being able to pass an english driving test. I had passed 3 taxi test in the midlands before I moved to Ireland 5 years ago that were harder than getting my class 1 in Ireland there is no off road driving first you just drive round the block answer a few questions and Bobs your uncle. I can now work in any eu country.
ive noticed no one has questioned the agency .as has been said many times before on here you are free to work where you want within the eu. my problem with this is if your dealing with the public then a minimal grasp of the language would be an advantage ie busdriver,but lorrydriver not really essential, if you had to speak a language for every country you visit then i would never have been able to go to france,belgium,holland,gremany,italy,to do my job

Mind you the bottom half of the sign is, as you say, pretty international and understandable in any language.
i totally agree with what every one has said here i am in a similar situation here in Romania
My Romanian is very limited but at least i work in the Transport office here and only drive my car from home to the office and on weekends.
In Bucharest its ok as many people can speak English ( the police can only do this when they want to) in the small towns its hard but i dont have many problems,but if i was driving a bus then i would have to learn Romanian

Perhaps I should have made it clear that I meant that I have never seen a low bridge, the warning sign for which consisted solely of the written word in the English language, without an international warning sign also being depicted.
The original point being that a a Polish driver would not understand a low bridge warning sign in the UK. A point with which I would have to disagree.
